Is anywhere taking cash still?

I’ve got £300 in cash and my bank account is running low. I’ve no way of getting the cash into my account and I need some shopping. Will anywhere take cash? I’m a bit low on petrol as well but that will probably be ok. I could do with paying the £300 cash in I suppose but I don’t want to have to go to the town centre.

I work in Tesco and we have never stopped taking cash

I paid for fuel with cash at BP the other day and food in tesco. Most places are saying they prefer card/contactless but I haven't seen anywhere insist.

All the self serve checkouts take it. But yes it's a funny old world, I haven't used cash in months. I realised I was carrying my heavy purse around for no reason. Now I just have my bank card in a wee zippy, which I touch directly on the contactless.

For nephews birthdays I've just transferred money via the banking app.

All the supermarkets are still taking cash.

We ended up with £200 in cash and didn’t want to spend it in shops (I work in a shop and although we take cash it’s gross touching all the notes and change) so DH paid it into our current account at the post office

Our local Morrisons & Tesco do. It's just they'd prefer you to use contactless, they're not insisting on it.

Is paying the money into your bank account at the post office an option?

Everywheres still taking it? It's legal tender they can't refuse

I’d have to go down to the bank in the centre of town to pay it in.
I guess if I used it for petrol then I could put exactly £50 in and then could just put the money on the top for them and retreat.

I havent seen anywhere that's not taking it.

You can probably pay the cash into your bank account at the post office. I paid cash into my mum’s Santander account this way.

I’ve been using cash the whole way through (I get paid in it, yes I pay tax!).
The only place I couldn’t pay with it was the aquarium shop for fish food.

Aldi (last week. Think that may have changed now).

I've been doing shopping for two households, one of which only deals in cash. I've been buying food, cigarettes and medical items from Amazon by card but have been re-imbursed in cash.
We already had a stash of cash for emergencies so I've ended up with far too much cash at home. I now pay in cash wherever I can but I had to go and put a few £k in the bank and building society and felt very awkward paying it in.

In the bank queue I was asked what service I required and when I said I was paying cash in, I was actually asked how much. I was then told that was okay and directed to another queue before I then underwent the questions from the teller. I'm not sure if they will only let you pay in small amounts if it is essential to pay direct debits or your account is overdrawn.

I thought, while I was there, that I'd take in two full money boxes on the offchance that the coin machine was still in use. I wasn't allowed to use that that as, it wasn't considered essential as my account wasn't overdrawn.

It's defnitely more difficult to use cash.

I shop at Aldi and Asda, they've been taking cash no problems.

Everywhere is taking cash. Why do you think otherwise?

I would definitely try to use self service tills with it. Save the cashiers having to handle it which is what they are trying to reduce.

My local shop is only accepting cash at the moment as their card machine broke (and not enforcing any limit of customers in the shop and the cashier licks his fingers to open each bag!)

You can pay cash in to your account at some cash point machines too. I was shown how to do this the other day when I went to the bank.
