Grandparent testing positive

So my husbands nan is currently in a care home that that has had an outbreak of covid-19.

She is 94 and has just tested positive but doesn't have any symptoms. What are her chances? Will it take her a while to develop symptoms?

She has always been quite strong and has been living by herself until a few weeks before quarantine where she was hospitalised because of suspected dementia (rapid decline). The hospital transferred her to care home.

Everyone is of course upset and more so because no one has seen her since before lockdown. So will be heartbreaking to lose her this way.

I know of someone in her 80s that tested positive and never had any symptoms at all.

I think she’ll be fine.

Dontlickthetrolley · 12/05/2020 17:20

My grandad tested positive whilst in hospital, he's 97. He never really got any symptoms and is absolutely fine now.

My aunt is 86 with Alzheimer's. She tested positive in her care home and had a mild cough but has recovered now.

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/05/2020 17:31

Even at that age she has around a 90-95% chance of survival. Fingers crossed she’ll be fine.

sillysmiles · 12/05/2020 17:32

If she is symptom free then she should be ok, but yes it is rubbish that if anything happened to her no one will have seen her.

A colleagues grandad who’s 90 was in pretty bad shape. He survived.

Floatyboat · 12/05/2020 17:41

It is likely she will survive.

Hanch99 · 12/05/2020 22:30

Ah that's such good news, i was expecting that her chances are low etc. Thank you for sharing everyone, i suppose they rarely report the survival rate.

Husbands grandad. 96 positive test. Recovered. His wife had no symptoms.

My 99 year old grandma, also in a care home, tested positive. She was really quite ill for around a week but thankfully seems to now be pretty much fully recovered
