Dominic Raab just said on BBC breakfast you can meet up, socially distanced, with other people not from your household

He was specifically asked "Can I meet my Mum in the morning and my Dad in the afternoon?" and said yes, as long as you stay 2m apart

So confirms what was told to the journalists, but contradicts what Boris said

@xenia You’ve said. People were following the guidance to only go out once a day. In fact many were following Michael Gove’s one hour instruction

It’s now changed to going out as often as you like so you don’t need to keep on with your superior knowledge

It is just the law is absolutely crucial and if we always just follow what a politician says we might end up in some kind of dictatorship.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 11/05/2020 22:21

I think that anyone who doesn't understand the conecept of using common sense and staying alert should stay on current lockdown rules, preferably permanently.

The French are going with Resetz Prudents which is Be Careful so at least when those of us bright enough to understand the new rules spend our summer in France we will be following similar guidelines.

chomalungma · 11/05/2020 22:21

But the law has always been that people can exercise as long as they want.

The law also stated that people could go to work if they wanted to.

(f)to travel for the purposes of work or to provide voluntary or charitable services, where it is not reasonably possible for that person to work, or to provide those services, from the place where they are living;

So when Boris announced the changes, I was a bit surprised about the work - as this has always been legal

How do I stay alert please?

I mean, you can't see the virus, you can't hear it. What am I supposed to be alert to?

A few examples woukd be helpful.

excitedmumtobe87 · 12/05/2020 02:01

Be careful makes a lot more sense than stay alert!

Inkpaperstars · 12/05/2020 03:30

Be careful seems better, or even stay aware.

VanGoghsDog · 12/05/2020 08:52

The govt confirmed that stay alert meant stay at home.

If only there was some easy way to say stay at home......

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/05/2020 16:42

Our Tesco delivery driver wasn't very 'alert' this morning - he had clearly interpreted the message to mean that social distancing doesn't apply any more. Insisted on coming right up to the door and handing us the crates to unpack, even though we are flagged as a vulberable household Angry

Xenia · 12/05/2020 20:10

The changes ot the regulations in England are here www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/500/pdfs/uksi_20200500_en.pdf Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2020

They were made today and come into force tomorrow.

They make very few changes other than relating to viewing houses for sale, letting people go to garden centres and outside courts etc and going out with one person from another household and going to parks for recreation which I assume does not mean open air sex but might include reading a book in the sun.

Ours have been leaving bags on the doorstep as requested, they’re not using crates?

(Tesco and Asda over the weeks).

Don't you just take two steps back in this case and say very clearly "social distancing is still a thing" or do you just suck it up?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/05/2020 14:47

I was just a bit taken aback @brefugee as he had dumped the crates down and then stood close to them. We kind of grabbed them and took them inside to unload. But next time I'll say something.

Brefugee · 13/05/2020 15:18

I get it, it really does shock me into silence, after doing all this for so long, when someone just completely ignores all the conventions. Maybe he'll be better next time. Flowers

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/05/2020 15:28

It's happened a few times and afterwards I always think about what I should have said. Like the woman in M&S who (after I had waited a few minutes for the salad aisle to clear) just swooped in front of me with her arm to grab some coleslaw. I'd only been stood there about 10 seconds thinking about what I wanted to buy. Unfortunately some people just do not see the need for social distancing. And to hell with anyone who does and gets in their way.

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 16:32

If you’ve marked on your delivery info that you are vulnerable or isolating then your Tesco driver should be taking the bags from the crates and leaving them at your door, knocking and standing back.

OP posts:
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/05/2020 16:37

@lyralalala they should be doing this for everyone, not just those who are shielding. It's called social distancing!

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 16:52

I believe if you are not marked specifically then they leave the crates for you to empty while the driver stands back (he was definitely in the wrong to be close!!)

Whereas if you are isolating they leave the bags and don’t return to your doorstep

OP posts:
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/05/2020 17:02

So why would we have had 'normal' (non-priority) slots where the driver has left the bags outside for us? I think it's just that this particular driver was crap.

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 17:16

Some drivers will be doing it for everyone for their own safety, that doesn’t mean it’s policy (it should be imo, but it’s not)

OP posts:
lyralalala · 13/05/2020 17:17

And that driver was crap because he should have been stood back no matter what

OP posts:
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/05/2020 17:36

Yep, agreed. Will be ready for them next week and I'm not taking any crap!

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 17:52

In the delivery details box at checkout just stick that you are isolating, or stick a note on your door saying so.
They can’t get far enough away from you then!

OP posts:
Brefugee · 14/05/2020 09:25

You could put a sign on your door when you know the delivery is coming? Do you think that would help?
