Educational activities for kids

Now this is set to go on a bit longer I was wondering if anyone had any inspiration for educational but fun stuff I can do at home with primary age kids. We are attempting some school work but due to dp and I both working from home I don't always have the time to sit and constantly supervise and provide the help they need. So I've been getting them to do projects, drawing, gardening, Lego and things like that.

We've done a lot of baking and they have planted flower pots that they are enjoying watering and watch grow.

But I need more! I was thinking of ordering one of those caterpillar to butterfly kits or something similar. Does anyone have any ideas? We don't have a very big garden so indoor stuff ideally.

Whatbage is your child?

Pick a topic per week and plan activities around that. So if you buy a butterfly garden then you can also read about butterflies, find out about their lifecycle, draw/paint/collage a butterfly, look at habitats, go on a woodland walk and take photos, etc.
I find it much easier to find activity ideas if I have a theme.

Ask your kids what they would like to learn about. Are they into history, animals, geography, science. Once you have a direction ask them whatbtheybwant to find out and learn about. Give them direction and let them make the discoveries.

You can even link into their hobbies -
If they like minecraft you could find out about different rocks/precious metals/gems; go on a rock hunt, build dens/shelters, make bow and arrows from sticks, make a flint axe/hammer, research cave men and their life styles, cook on an open fire - we made bread which had dandelion leaves as an ingredient!
