There have been cases of this Kawasaki like illness here too

I'm surprised about the lack of coverage this is getting both in the media and on MN

Daffodil101 · 10/05/2020 21:19

It’s been in the news for a couple of weeks. Is this the first you’ve heard of it?

The problem with cutting and pasting news articles is, you need to be up to date with the news. A regular reader of it.

It’s been done to death, there has been so many threads on it. 40 children in London have been effected, it is still very rare but if your child has symptoms you need to get your child to A&E straight away.

Expat30 · 10/05/2020 21:27

Yes it's the first I've read on it but I'm abroad so not getting the usual UK news.

83 in New York State in a week. Doesn’t sound like that few to me.

dementedpixie · 10/05/2020 21:36

Not all of the children with it are diagnosed with covid 19. They don't know how it's related so far

Some information in the lancet

The cases are ridiculously rare.

ONS data has that deaths of children are LOWER now than in a normal year despite the pandemic. Children are less likely to die now than in an average year.

Let us be thankful that children are pretty much untouched by the virus.

The problem is we don't know why do some children develop this serious condition while others don't. And we don't know about the long term consequences of COVID-19 on adults and children yet. Worryingly, evidence is emerging that some recovered patients have their lungs and kidneys being affected. With so many unknowns, opening schools in June seems far too risky to me. To me, health is far more important than economy and education.
