Just that really, why do they only want to get primary school back?

Childcare, lower death rate?

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2020 19:15

I guess to see how it goes ? Less pupils in primary schools? Work out a plan to SD the little ones first?

keepingbees · 10/05/2020 19:15

Only years reception, 1 and 6 too...

Justajot · 10/05/2020 19:15

Childcare - year 6 for transition and years R & 1 for childcare.

Rayna37 · 10/05/2020 19:15

Economics? Secondary school pupils can on the whole look after themselves freeing parents to work, but parents of primary school children cannot and if not in key worker roles, limited alternative childcare.

bingandflop · 10/05/2020 19:16

Did he say YR, 1 and 6???? 2 year groups who cant social distance and the other who has basically finished primary school????

attackedbycritters · 10/05/2020 19:16

Because the younger the child the harder it is to work from home let alone go out to work?

PerplexingWords · 10/05/2020 19:16

He also said exam year next year to have face to face before the summer, so later Y10 and Y12.

Quartz2208 · 10/05/2020 19:16

I thought he said they were starting the phased return of schools with YR, Y1 and Y6. Presumably it will build from there and more details will be fleshed out

And it is clear it is England only

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/05/2020 19:17

Childcare?

My DS is Year 2 so just missed out.

Couchpotato3 · 10/05/2020 19:17

Why is year 6 prioritised? I don't understand this.

WisestIsShe · 10/05/2020 19:17

Do will that mean early years childcare too, do you think?

runwithme · 10/05/2020 19:17

I'd imagine its quite important for the year 6 kids to have a transition period so that would be why they are going back

Grasspigeons · 10/05/2020 19:17

Smaller schools, less likely to use public transport, least affected by the illness, hardest to teach online.

Delatron · 10/05/2020 19:17

Yr reception and yr1 seem such a strange choice.

TeddyIsaHe · 10/05/2020 19:17

Early years because people can’t go back to work without childcare.

Year 6 because they have a big transition to high school and need to be eased into it.

ballsdeep · 10/05/2020 19:17

I'm glad we are in Wales

Couchpotato3 · 10/05/2020 19:18

But what does that "transition period" actually mean? I'm obviously missing something, but I don't understand what that is.

pjmask · 10/05/2020 19:18

Did he say YR, 1 and 6???? 2 year groups who cant social distance and the other who has basically finished primary school????

4 and 5 years olds because much harder to wfh with them there

Year 6 ffs they haven't "basically finished" primary school! Massive transition that needs lots of preparation!

bingandflop · 10/05/2020 19:18

Childcare....so we should.leave a year 2 child st home alone???!!!!

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 10/05/2020 19:18

This obviously won’t apply to Scotland and I doubt ours will be back before August but I did wonder how it would work for children like mine with one going into first year at secondary and one starting in p1 having missed the last 8 odd weeks at nursery and no transition

Flower34 · 10/05/2020 19:18

Surely Y2,3, 4,5 can’t look after themselves or be left on their own ? What’s the point? Are nurseries opening?

Bluewavescrashing · 10/05/2020 19:18

I'm a teacher. Yr R and 1 cannot social distance! Sharing equipment, playing together, hugging staff... We will have to implement horrible unnatural policies to keep them apart. Very worrying.

Redolent · 10/05/2020 19:18

Also because educational and social inequalities are amplified the younger the child.

TeddyIsaHe · 10/05/2020 19:19

It’s easier to WFH with 7/8/9 year olds though isn’t it?
