partners and social distancing

I assume at some point in the future we will be allowed to see friends and family again, socially distanced, and this wouldn't change until a treatment is found? From my point of view surely it would not be realistic to expect partners who don't live together to stay 2 metres apart until there is a vaccine? What do others feel?

As someone who doesn't live with her boyfriend, I agree it wouldn't be at all realistic, but I am worried that the government won't take that into consideration and won't bother to have a different rule for partners who live apart than for friends and family.

Yes I agree, that’s my worry too. My son and his GF are both low risk and have complied with the lockdown, but I really feel it would be unrealistic to expect them to distance themselves once they can next legally meet up, it’s so hard for them both

I think it's unrealistic to expect friends and family to stay 2m apart indefinitely. You think no one is going to hug their grandchild/sister/best friend etc until we have a vaccine?! It goes against all human instincts.

So hopefully we'll soon be allowed to use our own discretion and that will apply to partners and everyone else.

@110APiccadilly yes - that’s my view. Unfortunately because of some in the minority I don’t feel the government trust that any of us have common sense or discretion
