What are schooling conditions like in Sweden? I've just watched a video to prepare children to return in the US and I'm wondering if it's a spoof?

I'm hoping it's a spoof. Have Swedish schools adopted these practises does anyone know?
My kids school is small, but that's both in number and indoor space. The keyworker children have enjoyed school as far as I know here.

How do they think hearing impaired kids will get on with a teacher wearing A mask all day?

Maybe they are just hoping most parents will refuse to send their children, assuming it's real. There's no focus on what any child needs here.

Personally I think SD just won't happen in schools. And I think that for primary it shouldn't. Kids need proper interaction. I don't want my child constantly being told to stay 2m away from her friends.

I don't think schools will go back with any numbers until SD instructions change. If "we" moved to the 1m the WHO recommend, it might be possible but most school corridors aren't even 2m wide and your average classroom can accommodate 8 children at 2m distance, even if you can get them to stay apart.

Some of the unions and staff are pushing for masks etc, I suspect when they realise how uncomfortable they are all day they may change their minds but it's also impractical in terms of supply and cost.

Our school have done a video. No mask or gloves but similar re getting out of cars, social distancing while going into school. Library is also closed and books to be returned in plastic bags and then left for 72 hours before being out back on shelves.
We are in Europe but mine are at an international school.
Here only 15 kids allowed per class and kids have to stay in that group all day, all week. Social distancing etc.

My are secondary -age and the online morning school will continue and they will go into school 2 afternoons to see their peers in set groups of max 15

Looks like gov in uk will recommend employers buy masks for employees to would assume teachers will be able to wear them.

Very very few schools worldwide are going back as they were before.

China is masks on kids and teachers 1m apart.

We know it is transmitted by close contact especially inside so schools are prime for that.

I agree it is problematic getting kids to wear them but other countries seem to manage and im just not sure why the teachers should take the risk. (Especially as uk how many parents send kids back too soon after d&v) and of course kids dont necessarily have a fever and 20% of people are asymptomatic.

I am not sure what the point is in asking what schools are like in Sweden, since we are not there. Best to prepare yourself for the reality of what it might be like here by finding out what is planned in France, what is happening in Germany, perhaps Denmark, rather than yearning for what we won't have.

I will be keeping them home as long as I can but school is normally compulsory here (no home schooling allowed) so I’m really surprised we are being given the choice and I’m not sure how long it will last.

Home educating isn’t allowed in Germany? That seems really odd! Hopefully pandemic will change that.

OP I don't know why you think this is a spoof? Teachers wearing masks is completely expected, as is closing communal spaces and one way systems. Not so sure about the spacing of tables but only because it isn't practical for most schools, unless lots of kids stay off.

I am expecting a temp check on arrival too, our school is already doing that.

We cannot expect schools to return in their previous manner. Workarounds will be needed for hearing impaired teachers and kids for sure, but there will be ways round this. That doesn't mean NO teacher should be allowed to feel safer by wearing a mask just because of one issue that affects a minority. Perhaps in those classes, a screen will have to be erected instead to protect the teacher. I don't know the answers, but I do know that teachers deserve to feel safe, as do all employees.

Well ventilated classrooms and a large gap between the teachers desk and the children may well be enough, then the option to wear a mask if needing to move closer to the children? I don't know the exact answers!!

I think it has to be expected that the kids will mingle and parents will take that risk by sending their children in. However I think its reasonable to expect teachers to be allowed to try to socially distance.

Just thinking, maybe I am more chilled because I am still going to work (HCP) and my kids are still attending school, were social distancing is being strictly adhered to. And guess what? My kids are completely fine! They are only attending part time though, but I anticipate that will the case going forward anyway so that numbers will be smaller. My kids are loving going to school.

@Piggywaspushed but Swedish schools have stayed open, with less cases in the population than here. Surely they would be the ones to learn from rather than those who haven't yet done it and have similarly high number of cases to us. It's not yearning, mine would not be going if this was their school.

That is basically what the classes are going to be like in French schools, about 50 percent of kids are returning next week to our school. Exactly as it has been explained to us in an email, other than wearing of gloves and goggles - they haven't said either way! The teachers will be wearing masks. The kids can but don't have to.

@PrivateD00r are your children not playing with other children in scho? Sitting isolated at a lone desk all day. Walking around the playground 2m apart? I'm not worried about sending my children to school. I'm worried about them being taught to fear others and treated as if they are something to be feared. Not comforted if they are upset. I'm really wanting to hear how it has been managed in Sweden, what level of interventions they have put in place. Because their children have attended all along I believe.

What do you expect to happen, that all the children just pile in with no protection for children and staff. Why shouldn’t a teacher wear a mask or gloves and the children sit part form each other?

If schools are to open I think PPE for staff of some sort is needed.

Just to answer about your latest post re playing we have been told the kids will be doing non contact play like kicking a ball, running around but not touching each other - they quite often play games which involve pretending to be motor vehicles during normal time - maybe organised things like races...

We are just not doing any of the same things as Sweden, though, so it just won't happen. As far as I know, their schools are 'normal' and fully open,as are their universities. They do have fewer cases there than her, for a huge range of factors, but their deaths in care homes is a scandal developing and their death rates are the worst in Scandinavia, by a long way. On a more practical note, their schools are entirely different form ours is size, classroom size, desk type, outdoor space and layout.

I am sorry to say that I think schooling here will be rather oppressive for some time, looking at countries who have attempted some sort of return.
