The fact that we didn’t have the NHS overwhelmed with people dropping dead in the streets & hospital corridors filling up with bodies means that the “don’t even look outside or you’ll deny 15 people ventilators” brigade need a new way to justify their insane terror .... novel viral infection linked to a condition associated with a number of viral infections works well for them.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 17/05/2020 09:55

Tbh I'm slightly starting to get worried about kids going back. Not necessarily about the virus, but more how the school environment will be like. I worry some about DD and how she'll cope, but I worry even more about the kids at my school. We have a high number of SEND and emotional/social difficulties plus a whole other array of issues. Some of the rules, letters/emails and proposals sound bonkers and if strictly adhered to it, could be quite damaging.

Also, I'll put my hands up and admit I'll probably struggle to follow them as well. If a child needs me, they need me.. and I know I won't be able to say no.

@Princess I have to say if I had a Yr 1 or R child I'd be inclined to keep them at home for their own emotional good at least until I knew how the school was operating. That photo from France of all the kids in the playground in their own chalk square (if genuine, I know there's been some debate) was just so sad.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 17/05/2020 10:16

I think there are some concerns about sending kids to school, fhat are completely valid.

I think most of these 'see I told you children die' posters don't give a shit about the actual risks. They just want to be right, so far they have been right about very little. Its very sad when people feel a sense of triumph over people dying

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 17/05/2020 10:23

I also think some people are really loving/enjoying lockdown , so they'll promote anything that might mean things stay the same.
I have a friend like that, loving it(I get why,she had an awful year at work) , won't engage with plans to go back and is supported by her Union and keeps sending me "Have you seen this ?!??" doom and gloom articles.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 17/05/2020 10:33

Yes. Its definitely the preferred state of play for some people. They don't want any positives or any signs we will have to return to normal.

They want to continue as it is now. Forgetting the long term impacts of that.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 17/05/2020 10:54

Printer just died in the the middle of DD's school work. Should I take that as a sign?😬

Hey all, quiet day here. Cleaning and wandering round the garden in a onesie because cba getting properly dressed.

I dipped into the Kawasaki thread. Nowhere in that article does it say that poor little lad had Covid. Some people do seem to want to either frighten each other or almost say "Ha! See, it is bad for kids!" Like they get some kind of pleasure from that.

Many illnesses are bad for kids. I was deathly ill with measles. DD2 had a life threatening auto immune response to a chest infection when she was 5. It affects 1 in 250,000 kids. Thank fuck she pulled through but it was a horrific time. It happens. It's always sad.

If DD2 wasn't home schooled would I be sending her back when schools reopened? I don't honestly know. I'd be more worried about the effects of enforced distancing on children and how that would affect them emotionally and mentally in the long term. I worked with under 5s for 7 years, and as part of that I had to take supplementary courses on child psychology. I'm not convinced that it would be great tbh. But once again that depends a lot on the individual child. I don't see why they can't bring back years 5 and 6 first as they'd probably fair better with social distancing than little ones.

Very lazy day so far after busy (ha ha) week of work and cleaning house like crazy. Only done washing so far.
Had big fry up for brunch, delish shoot me now.
Lazing on sofa watching 'The Dog Whisperer' love that guy havent seen it in ages.
Was raining so thats my excuse not to go anywhere😄

Just going to give up reading some threads. Theres a new kawasaki one scaring up anyone with kids under 15. Seriously nobody had a clue about this reaction to some illnesses before, they didnt know it was around forever yet now everyone is an expert. Thankfully many people telling op to get her facts right.

Really need to do something today like finish painting that table, just need to muster up the motivation. May need another coffee and a biccie first😄

CrowCat · 17/05/2020 14:48

Princess don't forget to be alert and remember your social distancing roolz 😂

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 17/05/2020 15:09

According to FB the fields are FULL! There is no way to social distance, people out in their hundreds, there's picnics, football games, gatherings and all kinds of debauchery.

Only contact we had were some dogs. Apparently a lying down in the grass OH is irresistible to doggy curiousness. He got a few stealthy licks on his bald patch too.GrinGrin

They were hiding in the tree line. Couldnt you see their fevered eyes? Anyway, I am sure that through the miracle of telephoto lens it will be photographed to make it look like you were all practically sat on each other's laps

I have been planting out non essential perennials & sowing flower seeds. The shame of it! How can I even think of flowers during these plague times?

FrangipaniBlue · 17/05/2020 18:16

I have found you all again after losing this thread!!!!

Happy to report my very sensible neighbours (20 houses in my street) who are neither hysterically locked in nor blatantly flouting the rules couldn't be arsed to clap this week - I love my street!!

In other news, I went swimming in an actual lake in the actual Lake District today, with a friend and I drove to get there. Thousands of key workers have just dropped dead.

Hi Frangipani *waves glad you had a good day at the lake! I feel like many of us had a pretty good weekend.

Currently being chatted up by my possible post-lockdown shag and flirting shamelessly haha. He's 6'4" and a bit of a Viking 😏

Masks. Hm. I'd wear a plague mask and full garb. Not sure how well it would go down though 😂

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 18/05/2020 00:37

Well you definitely wouldn't be going down with that on. Grin

I am getting a bit frustrated by all the negativity around getting the return to school process started. I know it is going to be complicated but the problem isnt going to solve itself.

Watched a news article a couple of days ago where a Head was walking around her school. She pointed at a corridor and said it's less than 2m wide so we cant use that. The journalist said 'it will have to be one way' and the Head looked baffled.

The government isnt going to be able to issue rules for every single school situation. SLTs need to be getting into their schools and start saying 'what can we do here' rather than what is coming across as 'cant so shant'.

Interesting post on another thread where poster said that in her school they had dismantled everything to see what space they actually had and had then detailed the changes being made to accomodate the first stage of return. All sounded very practical, sensible and affordable.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 18/05/2020 09:00

Gnome I try to stay away from them because posters on both sides piss me off.

We could get all the school children to wear plague masks. Then the teachers would be less worried and the children would learn about history in an interactive way.

There could be no possible drawbacks to this, I am sure.

CrowCat · 18/05/2020 11:55

Guys!!! I found a tutorial for making your own plague mask 😷
