Anyone watching? I'm quite happy with this. A subtle change. I imagine England will stay the same.

Yes, we drive two wild spots either a couple of minutes a way, up to 10 minutes at most. My youngest would struggle to walk to the closest and we live on a steep hill and I could not carry him back! It's been invaluable to me and the kids to be able to go there.

Wtfdidwedo · 08/05/2020 13:52

This has just brought us in line with England hasn't it, England's announcement will presumably be more of a lift than ours. He hasn't actually said tips and libraries will open, he's said they can look at how they can open. I'm sure some tips in England are already open?

Bol87 · 08/05/2020 14:19

Our tip is opening on Monday! I’m in Yorkshire. You can drive 10 mins to exercise in England under current lockdown rules. They state you can drive to exercise so long as the exercise you do is double the time it took you to drive there! Pretty ambiguous but def allows you to drive somewhere for a walk!

MinkowskisButterfly · 08/05/2020 14:32

@TabbyMumz erm, no in England you are still only supposed to go out ONCE a day - the only difference is England doesn't have a time as I believe Wales does?

ifonly4 · 08/05/2020 14:35

I have to drive past a garden centre 6/7 days (England). So far there's been one car in the carpark occasionally, i guess someone checking for safety and watering. Drove past at lunchtime and there's three cars - they might just be being hopeful, but I wonder if they're getting prepared for re-opening.

@Itisasecret

This is what he said

We don’t know what the UK government will be saying about schools in England, so I’m not going to speculate on that. I said, a week ago, that it needed three weeks from the point you made the decision to a school reopening. We’re at that point where if we’ve made the decision schools will be reopening in Wales in June. We’re not making that decision today for all the reasons I’ve already set out. And that’s why Kirsty Williams our education minister confirmed that schools in Wales wouldn’t be reopening in that major way in June.

and

“We will maintain a four nations approach but timings could vary. We don’t know what the UK government will say about schools. We are not making a decision to reopen schools in June.”

So its not a no

TabbyMumz · 08/05/2020 14:46

"MinkowskisButterfly

Think you missed the police update on this. There was never an instruction in England that exercise was once a day, and the police clarified this.

Itisasecret · 08/05/2020 14:49

They won’t be opening Quartz, you’ll just have to get used to it I’m afraid. That’s exactly what he said, no school in June. I hate to break it to you, many schools will be full anyway with an increase in key worker places being taken up. I know you seem keen for schools to throw open their doors, which they already are and are now becoming increasingly full with key worker children. Schools will not be open in June. Read the quote clearly. It’s no point repeatedly tagging me, I don’t have emails on.

Goatymcgoaty · 08/05/2020 14:52

@TabbyMumz gov.uk is still repeating over and over that you can only exercise once a day.

Hugglespuffed · 08/05/2020 15:00

Sorry I wrote the post and only just getting back to phone. In England we can only exercise once a day. I will post a link below (point number 1) there are exceptions, for example, someone with a disability who needs to get out more than once.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do#should-i-stay-at-home-or-go-to-work

The welsh minister said that you cannot drive for exercise and that it has to start and end at home.
The impression I got from him about schools was that they won't open at the beginning of june but may open sometime in June but that they would get 3 weeks notice?

MinkowskisButterfly · 08/05/2020 16:04

@TabbyMumz Then if I am mistaken please kindly provide a (reputable) link??

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 16:06

“We are not making a decision to reopen schools in June.”

Sorry to be thick

Does this mean they might change their mind later?

Parker231 · 08/05/2020 16:11

I understood it as schools won’t be opening in June.

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 16:19

Thanks

Good news that some libraries can open.

Quartz2208 · 08/05/2020 17:52

I’m not welsh so it doesn’t bother me.

I have however seen enough politicians answers to see the wiggle room exactly as @Hugglespuffed sees it

They will give 3 weeks notice before they do
They aren’t today so it’s not 1st June
Schools won’t be open in a major way in June
They aren’t yet making a decision

Isn’t we are not opening schools at all in June but that they aren’t making a decision yet. Semantically different and very political. Never back yourself into a corner. Now he has the options to do both.

That’s not to say he will open them just that he hasn’t categorically said he won’t

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/05/2020 19:49

I find the phrase Wales wouldn’t be reopening in that major way in June. to be interesting.

I read it that no announcements will me made in the next three weeks, and we've been promised a 3 week minimum grace period for planning the return. Which would take us to the 22nd June. We break up on 16th July, which means a month that school could be open in some format.

BilboBercow · 08/05/2020 23:31

So very similar to what Nicola Sturgeon said today yet there's a thread full of people complaining about political point scoring and how "she always has to get her announcement out first".
