You reckon Reception to go back in June too?

i know there is no answer for this but anyone has good guess if reception and pre schools also go back in early June??

Me and my husband both wfh and it's not easy but at the same time I don't want my 5 years old and 3 years old to go back to school and nursery in June.

I see news about year 6 is returning the first week and phased return for other primary year groups.

Do you reckon nurseries and very young year groups will also go back?

June is three weeks away - no schools are going back in three weeks time.

Our nursery are saying they're hoping to reopen in June, but that may just be wishful thinking on their part.

I don’t think so. I would imagine they’ll be bring back years where it’s possible to have social distancing. Hopefully all this nonsense will be over by next year though. I can’t stay at hone with my children indefinitely.

Have you checked what other European countries are doing OP? Their results may impact on the decisions for how we come out of lockdown.

Even if they do open then I can’t see there being any pressure to send children back. Infact given the issues they are going to face with social distancing then I think some not returning at that point would be a relief

I don't think they'll be returning beginning of June. Possibly end of June if our figures keep going in the right direction.
I think the youngest children in primary -nursery and reception/yr1) will be last to go back after a staged return.

Our headteacher has said that he understands some parents might not want to send their children back so they won’t force you if they do re open .

Some schools in Denmark went back 3 weeks ago.

What will happen to all those parents who need child care, can’t work from home and their employers reopen? Because companies aren’t waiting are they ? They are not waiting to reopen. They are doing it over the next couple of weeks.

So what exactly will these parents do? Because furlough is an employers decision. Not the government, there is no entitlement.the government has made it an employers choice. And when they reopen they expect staff to come in and stop furlough.

What exactly will these parents do when they can’t go in, their company has reopened, and the employer stops furlough and wants them back?

Hope their employer just keeps paying them and let’s them stay off till September? Because we all know that’s not happening. Hope their employer realises they don’t need them and let’s them take unpaid leave? Hope their employer lets them take their kids into work with them? No none of that is happening either.

Schools and any form of child care need to reopen at the exact same time as companies, or a fuck ton of people are about to loose their jobs.

And companies are reopening now. That’s a given.

I feel like I’ve got a difficult decision to make regarding if I want to pull her out of school completely or not unless they give parents a choice to return when it’s safer to.

I think your comment makes everyone who's child does /will go on look like they don't care about their child.

The department of education have just asked schools what they see a return to schools will look like. If the government don’t know yet then there is no way anyone of mn will know.

The key driver is not when schools go back.

The key driver is when does companies. When is the company reopen, end furlough and expect their employee back.

And based on that, what is required to get that employee back.

Schools and paid child care need to reopen at the same time as companies or there is a massive disconnect. People will be laid off if they can’t work. They will no longer get furlough when their company starts to operate again.

People should be hoping they go back ASAP, with a choice for the parent. So that those who will loose their jobs otherwise can still work.

Businesses reopening is the key driver. Not schools. That’s arse over tit. Businesses are not saying we won’t reopen or we will partially reopen until schools go back. They are reopening now

Everything else needs to fall in behind it, or so many people, many of them women are about to get screwed over greatly.

Maybe more workplaces will open, an schools will be asked to take in any DC with both parents at work. That gives them a chance to try out the logistics of gently rising numbers, made up of DC hose family members are out in the community anyhow (so not the DC of a shielded and a continuing furloughed parent who could continue in isolation, not at first)

Then if case numbers do not rise, the next wave can be added with greater confidence.

But what will schools do about the shielded, and those who need 14 days isolation (because there is a household case) or a shorter period (awaiting test)?

Schools are already open for the children of key workers. The good ones are trying to keep things as normal as possible, the bad ones are so rubbish I know NHS key workers who haven't used them. If as the PP says they slowly open up for the children of people who need to return to their workplace but those who can WFH continue to do that then that might be the best option, rather than doing it by year group (my Y6 is absolutely fine at home, it's my Y7 and particularly my Y2 who are struggling). Suspect those who can't WFH will include a lot of low income families who will benefit most from the school opening.

I agree Bluntness, currently furlough is due to finish at the end of June so companies are looking to recommence trade at the start of June. I've noticed that among friends who are furloughed they're being told to at least plan for then. Although I'm not sure what they expect them to do if schools and childcare are still shut. The Government have treated us like children, they should have given companies an idea of what easing of lock down will look like much earlier. I can well believe thar they are only now consulting schools on how best to re open.

It’s only a matter of weeks away.... plenty of workers are parents, businesses need to go back and won’t be worrying about workers needing childcare. There’s plenty of people looking for jobs so I think it will be survival of the fittest ..
