I've spent the past 10 months on MAT leave and I am due to go back to work on Monday.
Should I go back?

For someone in charge of scheduling for an airline, surely you should have given yourself more than two days to sort all of this out?

What’s the alternative? Resignation? Given what’s happening on the industry, surely you’d be better off going back and seeing if redundancy will be on the table soon?

WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin · 07/05/2020 21:45

Well what was the plan if there wasn't a lockdown? Does your DH always work from home or is it because of the pandemic.. if he doesn't then what was your plan?

Surely you shouldn't be relying on your adult DD for childcare either. I sure wouldn't have been impressed to have to look after a child and a baby that weren't mine at 19 years old.

@Littlemissdaredevil

Thank you so much for that link, I think I may be classed as a 'key worker, as we are still running flights to supply ppe and essential cargo and supplies.We are just not running consumer flights currently.

@NorthernLass75

I know for a fact that I won't get made redundant as my job is essential to the airline.

@WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin

We usually use the school breakfast club and after school club for my older DC.

You'll have to pay back your maternity pay if you don't go back btw

Hoggleludo · 08/05/2020 20:48

What the company paid you in the 10 months

So if you can't afford to quit. I take it you also did save the maternity pay?

Fleetheart · 08/05/2020 20:49

Has your company not told you whether you are classed as a key worker??

Disneylover4321 · 08/05/2020 20:51

@fleetheart

Unfortunately, no.

If you ask them they will most likely supply you with a letter for you to give to the nursery.

What were your plans before the pandemic. Do you have a nursery lined up already?

Disneylover4321 · 09/05/2020 09:11

@Littlemissdaredevil

Hello,

I would only need it for Thursday and Friday because my husband works from home on the other 3 days.
Yes I had a nursery lined up.

If I got a letter from my work would it also allow my DS who is seven to go to school on the 2 days that DH is not at home?

OP posts:
Disneylover4321 · 09/05/2020 11:56

So would my DS be able to go to school on those 2 days then?

You need to speak to the school. You do seem to be very naive not to have considered this before

Disneylover4321 · 09/05/2020 14:20

@fleetheart

Will email them at some point on Monday.

I think in England you only need one parent to be a key worker (assuming you are in England). The situation may be different in Scotland or Wales. However, schools are providing childcare not education and you may need to contact the local authority as it may not be your local school that is open

Connie222 · 09/05/2020 15:28

Are you really only thinking about this and childcare a few days before you are due back?

Disneylover4321 · 09/05/2020 21:27

@Littlemissdaredevil

I am in England yes. My local school is definitely open so I will contact them.

I have just been emailed my schedule for Monday and it's bloody hectic and stressful. Talk about throwing me in at the deep end when I've not been there for 10.5 months!!Angry
