Support thread for those who've had Covid symptoms or post-viral fatigue for at least 7 weeks/49 days or longer.

If your symptoms haven't lasted that long, check out the Lung 7 thread (or later). It'll be more helpful as people there will be in a more similar position.

Sorry, emoo thanks for the link! The kids stuff was in response to godhelpusall Smile

fedupofbed · 07/05/2020 15:52

@emoojoo that sounds really interesting but I couldn't get the link to work. @sleepwhenidie I'm peri and my periods had been pretty irregular up until the start of my illness. They've been every 3-4 weeks since.

One particularly helpful doctor tried to attribute all my symptoms to peri Menopause. I just gritted my teeth.

longshot · 07/05/2020 16:00

@Kitcat122 same here, started two shortness walks (10-15 mins flat) twice a day and yoga in the evening. Did three days and felt great and then today back in bed with palpitations and headache and chest pains! I’m not anywhere near as bad as I was but it’s so damn annoying. Hoping it’s just a one day dip, have rested and will only do v gentle yoga today.

Have any of you joined the slack group for long term covid recovery by the way? It’s really quite informative !

clairethewitch70 · 07/05/2020 16:04

My symptoms started on March 7 so two months today. I still have the unrelenting fatigue and have been in a fibromyalgia flare ever since.

Moodgie · 07/05/2020 16:20

@longshot I haven’t joined any other group as I’m worried about getting anxious. I need some positivity. Are there any good things you found there they you would have time to share on here maybe?

emoojoo · 07/05/2020 16:23

@fedupofbed sorry that did not work - here is the YouTube link for 5pm https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCa09am-cOsC-FSgr_nLkFFA/videos
Hope that works Smile

fedupofbed · 07/05/2020 16:25

Thank you @emoojoo that works!

longshot · 07/05/2020 16:30

@godhelpusall my DD has been unwell for 7.5 weeks now, very up and down. Some very bad days and then some good. It just seems relentless. When she’s ok she’s doing better better than I am (never had lung issues of note)

@Moodgie I don’t blame you. If I find things I’ll share but trying to limit time now on my phone as generally am feeling better so able to participate with family life a lot of the time! The slack group is good in a sense as you realise there are thousands of ‘us’ across the world. Lots of people saying 7-8 weeks they feel much much better generally but still have the odd bad day / relapse etc which I think/hope is where I am at, generally younger people seem faster to recover but there are tons of super healthy for 30-40 year olds on there (like me). Also the medical advice in the US and Europe seems better so I guess I feel it’s worth looking for that type of info. I can feel summarise it all here as there’s just so so much. Initially I found it made me anxious but now I’ve accepted it’s a long road to recovery and I kind of like hearing from others who are doing ok on there.

FjorGynAndHotWater · 07/05/2020 16:33

So good / bad to see other kids struggling with this. My DD is 14 and has been ill for 44 days now (with a brief recovery on days 10-12). No cough or tight chest at all, just a bit of a fever at first and the odd temp spike since but install ones. Her main symptoms are headache and dizziness. I just feel so helpless

Moodgie · 07/05/2020 16:34

@longshot Thank you. I’m 41, love running, normally 10 thousand steps a day and it is week 9 for me. Hopefully I’m getting there. Hopefully all of us are.

Crayfishforyou · 07/05/2020 16:45

I'm having the odd panicky 20 minutes or so today, but I've managed to do washing and hang it out. I've sorted a dd tantrum.
I also just started omeprazole, I don't know if it just isn't a heartburn kind of day but my heartburn has vanished completely.
It's been 6 days since my last blip. I've been feeling stronger and better every day since last friday. And last friday I still felt better than the week before.
I daren't hope, but I am hoping.
I'm better but I'm not BETTER. I am hoping I am on the way to it though, quietly.

godhelpusall · 07/05/2020 17:02

Well I'm super cynical but I can't help feeling that there is an agenda behind the children don't get it as badly as there are some impatient t Tories out there who want us back to work

Moominmamma33 · 07/05/2020 17:59

@longshot How do we join the Slack group, please?

JaggedHedge · 07/05/2020 18:27

Hello all, I haven't posted before but I'm almost 8 weeks in.

My remaining symptoms are the acid reflux, palpitations and the fatigue and feeling like I'm pushing against a wall of concrete if I do too much.

I came across some stuff on post exertional malaise that recommended keeping your heart rate low, so I've been monitoring my heart rate over the last few days and as soon as I see it going too high, stopping to take a break. I feel a lot less fatigued, so it might be worth anyone who is at a similar point looking into it.

sleepwhenidie · 07/05/2020 18:30

godhelpusall I might start a kids with covid thread....

godhelpusall · 07/05/2020 18:33

@sleepwhenidie good idea.

LetsBeSensible · 07/05/2020 18:39

Day 50 overall not a bad day.
Due to having CFS I have taken it really easy, I did a bit today (housework!) and I got pains in chest high up, I think they are just muscular. Thanks to those updating on the Slack and Facebook groups (you can mute groups to keep them out of your feed. Then you just search the group when you fancy a read of it)
I have been holding off inventing snarky replies because I’m trying to be a nice person! But honestly, sometimes there’s not even any logic in what they say - I have started saying “the GP says...that it can last weeks/it’s a new virus no-one knows...” to friends now. That seems to help.
Here is what I haven’t said (but have thought)

you don’t even have a science GCSE but you’re qualified to diagnose me as not having covid based on my Facebook updates and a few texts?

My “still being ill” is really inconvenient for me, but I’m not sure why you seem so put out about it

Why do you need a run down of my symptoms? Are you conducting a survey? Moonlighting as a doctor?

Norugratsatall · 07/05/2020 18:45

@Paddlinglikehell thank you!

Egghead68 · 07/05/2020 18:57

I found someone else with mildly raised troponin levels (indicator of heart issues) in the Facebook group (from the US). She says she was given the following advice by the doctor:
“take it easy, avoid unnecessary exertion and wait a few more weeks before resuming exercise... and to follow up w my PCP, a cardiologist, and maybe a pulmonologist IF this continues beyond a cpl more weeks. Said they're seeing a LOT of this and other issues w covid patients right now, and they're still not really sure why, how, or what it means long term. :/ “

Moodgie · 07/05/2020 19:22

Started questioning today whether it is all post viral. I keep getting these blotches in my thighs - I am not sure how long that has been going on for, only noticed it yesterday and then read about it in the Guardian post someone shared here. They really worry me.
On the other hand, called the surgery about the blood tests and the receptionist told me it was given the No Action so that’s good.

Feelpoorly · 07/05/2020 19:31

I am still struggling day 53. I have a terrible fatigue can hardly walk around the house, and my heart rate is much higher than usual. I am increasingly anxious about what on earth is going on with me

Crayfishforyou · 07/05/2020 19:45

I think I may have done too much today, I just gave myself a scare. Got out of the bath, dried off and lay down in bed. Felt weird. Pulse shot up and sats dropped to 95. DH turned up and did that deep sigh thing which meant he didn't really believe me.
I hope this is a really small blip. I walked for about 15 minutes today and my pulse stayed below 100 the whole time.

Meercatmama · 07/05/2020 20:09

Hi
Day 53 and just to add a bit of hope so far. I had a reasonably busy day and up to this moment except for aching back and a short period of breathlessness this afternoon it has not been too bad. I spent as much time as possible in the sun trying to boost my vit d levels as well as taking extra vit d and c tablets. Stilll awaiting the relapse. Husband on day 39 still experiencing the breathlessness especially in evenings and the bloating of the stomach. Both of us are still very tired. Hoping you all have a good night.

LetsBeSensible · 07/05/2020 20:10

Sorry got sidetracked before. I also do the ZOE project and got their email today. The ZOE COVID app study thing is looking at oestrogen as a factor for women being less likely to die from it.

Email text here
evening,

Thank you for continuing uto tell us about your health daily. We are now 3 million strong and have some amazing accomplishments. As we start to come out of lockdown your continued support is going to be more critical than ever.

You’ve helped us to predict COVID hotspots, demonstrate to the government that lockdown was working, and identified loss of smell as a key new symptom of COVID. This week, we have agreed to support some important NHS research by adding a few new questions to the app.

An important update
Before we tell you about some of the new questions we’re asking, I wanted to let you know some news about our name.

We are changing our name to the COVID Symptom Study. We do not follow you around and we felt the use of the word “Tracker” was causing confusion with apps that track and trace. We are a community of people working together to help save lives and support front-line NHS workers across the country. Through your continued daily reporting you are making a truly important contribution to understanding this terrible disease.

With your help, over 25 scientific papers are already being published which will help doctors and scientists globally to beat the disease. I hope that like me you are proud to be part of this. To discover more about what you are making happen, do visit the blog. We will update this each time we publish a new paper, and explain what has been discovered.

New Questions
We recently added an ethnicity question as you may have seen, which is aiming to try and answer the very important question of why people from ethnic minorities seem to be much worse hit by COVID. By understanding the science, we can enable action.

Tomorrow we will add some new questions. We have been asked by NHS England if we can help them to understand why men are more at risk from COVID than women. We have therefore teamed up with NHS researchers Dr. Louise Newson and Professor Janice Rymer, who think that oestrogen may play a protective role in fighting COVID. To understand this better, we have added a few new questions in the app that we can then link to the unique symptoms that 3 million of you have been experiencing. These questions look at things like contraception and Hormone Replacement Therapies (HRT) that impact hormone levels.

We expect to add further questions in the future, as we continue to focus on how together, we can help save lives.

Tune into our webinar tomorrow at 5pm BST on YouTube to hear Dr. Louise Newson and Professor Tim Spector explain this groundbreaking research.

I look forward to sharing more news with you shortly. We have some very exciting things planned for next week, as we focus on how together we can get out of lockdown safely and hopefully faster.

Thank you again for your support.

Professor Tim Spector

Hello, all. Glad to find this thread. Week 7 here, and I have been feeling better, with episodes of rapid-onset feeling awful that then dissipate after a couple of hours - but I am back to having to sleep and rest ridiculous amounts.

I can rely on getting one thing done any given day (and by "one thing" I mean "sitting in a chair for a zoom meeting", not anything more energetic) and then I have to go back to bed for the rest of the day because I am so physically exhausted.
