Getting tested but had no symptoms

So Coronavirus tests are more widely available now to the general public. Should you and your family be tested if no one is showing any symptoms ? ( Not front line workers ) is it a waste of NHS money?
Will it lead to those testing negative now taking more risks because they are clear and possibly end up contracting it at a later stage anyway?

I've also been offered one after using the kings college app. I reported a bad headache and issues with eyesight (bright lights hurting eyes alongside headache). I requested a home test which is being sent out but feeling a bit of a fraud for requesting one since I otherwise feel absolutely fine. although my ds did have a fever that lasted 6 days and we are still in the 14day self isolation. still, no one else has a fever and no continous coughs or difficulty breathing etc.

I was also offered a test as part of the kings college symptoms tracker after reporting a couple of days of minor symptoms (stomach pain, mild shortness of breath and strange feeling at back of throat). I assumed I didn’t have it as I had none of the common symptoms but went for the test anyway as it had been offered.

Came back positive yesterday after 6 days of waiting worrying to think that without filling in the app I would probably have just assumed I was being paranoid as symptoms were and still have been mild.

SirBale, that's interesting, I had v similar symptoms but diarrhoea too. I wish I could have been tested but it was the middle of March.

DP and I had it through the app on Thurs evening. Mine came back last night as negative,he's still waiting. I have no symptoms anymore,his seems to have got a bit worse. And I'm 14 days away from my C section date. Very stressed!
