I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

The test is for my dd, we all had symptoms but she had it the worst (middle of march).
Was up and down the hospital and doctors but couldn't get tested at the time.
She had a really high temperature and cough, sore eyes and a day of loose bowls.
Always really breathless (having to use blue inhaler a lot) this lasted in waves for 5 weeks.
The doctors did say suspected coronavirus and we were giving 2 lots of antibiotics as a precautionary.
Not saying she definitely did have it but I just want to know.
A week or so before she had it some of the teaching staff had high temps, sore throats and horse voices.

@LaurieFairyCake I have been following your thread for twelve days now and have come to the conclusion that your test has gone missing. Sorry you have been so unfortunate.

.

STILL NO RESULT FOR MY TEST angry

I've emailed crossly and had an automated response back saying they're too busy to respond

I’m considering getting a test. My husband and I had a few days of feeling rough and fluey mid march with ongoing fatigue for a couple of weeks but no classic symptoms. My 7 yo a few days later had a wheezy croup like cough, bad especially at night (on verge of taking him to hospital) and diarrhea.m, but it was more in the throat than in the lungs I think. So he had the most severe viral symptoms, and also it would help in the decision to send him to school.. but I’m weary that as he’s a skinny 7 year old, getting blood from a finger prick may prove hard work and painful. Anyone experience of finger prick tests with children?

Alone07 · 17/05/2020 08:57

@BovvyDazz my newborn (at the time) had to have the same test (obviously not covid) but the blood with a lancet and viral.
He did quite well and managed to get what they needed.
Best thing is to make sure they have been drinking well and there hands are warm.
The needle 'Lancet' only stings for a second.

Bananasandorangesss · 17/05/2020 09:31

@talismankeeper can I ask where this is? If it’s the Harley street one? I am really hoping one will offer it outside of London as I don’t want to go into central London otherwise I’m just going to have to get on with this DIY fingerprick one at home!

Aridane · 17/05/2020 09:41

~43% of people are asymptomatic so is really hard to know if you have had it. Hope these tests can be of some use

@drcb83 - what are your sources for this? Presumably it would have to be from countries which - unlike the U.K. - have been following the WHO mantra of test, test, test and have tested a significant chunk of their population

drcb83 · 17/05/2020 09:55

Is pre-print but this paper is the one covering Italy. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.17.20053157v1

rarotonga2 · 17/05/2020 10:20

@Bananasandorangessss It is the Mayfield Clinic in Oxford. I have PM'd you the link :)

chomalungma · 17/05/2020 10:26

I wonder what it would cost to buy an analyser, fridge, enrol in QC programmes, a centrifuge and some kits?

Could I pitch this to Dragon's Den?

WithIcePlease · 17/05/2020 21:15

Hi
Anyone any ideas about false negatives on this one please? I have 2 and no symptoms. When best to use etc?

@WithIcePlease

The company, itself seems to be claiming a 90.19% degree of accuracy

CherryStoneTree · 17/05/2020 22:25

Does anyone know who’s selling the slightly less accurate ones that you can do at home for an instant result? The ones that look like pregnancy tests? I have a friend in Europe who needs to find out if they’ve had it and they can’t find their equivalent of the ones we are sending back to the lab, so figured it was better than nothing.

I know the Harley street doctor was doing them but people weren’t receiving them

WithIcePlease · 17/05/2020 23:21

So if the Safecare one is antibodies, that means if I have had it, it should likely show up? It's IgM and IgG I think

Deblou43 · 17/05/2020 23:58

@lauriefairycake did you get your results ?

Aridane · 18/05/2020 00:02

@WithIcePlease - yes, I think so

WithIcePlease · 18/05/2020 00:21

Thank you aridane

HarrietTheShy · 18/05/2020 08:03

@WithIcePlease Where did you buy the rapid test?

WithIcePlease · 18/05/2020 08:17

I was forwarded an email by a friend because I work in the NHS. I think it was only available to registered practitioners

Namechangervaver · 18/05/2020 08:25

@HarrietTheShy don't forget it needs to be a priority postbox

Dorual · 18/05/2020 08:32

Anyone thinking of ordering it for a child. Please don't. It's too brutal to do it to a child. It's not like a quick fingerprick and drop of blood. It's more like a teeny blade ans ot goes quite deep. It's be traumatic getting the required amount from a child. Also painful, and it bruises.

Aridane · 18/05/2020 08:43

@Dorual - irrespective of what you say, I’m not sure they’re effective for children given lack of / minimal antibodies produced by children

At least that’s what the doctor said who drew my blood (and he therefore declines to administer to children)

CherryStoneTree · 18/05/2020 08:43

@WithIcePlease I’d also be interested in the rapid cassette test. Friend abroad is a healthcare professional so can do it themselves

WithIcePlease · 18/05/2020 12:30

I deleted the email when I had test delivered
Safecare biotech has a FB page though where it says click to enquire on the coronavirus one step test

haget · 18/05/2020 13:17

I ordered the £49 test. Tried to do it this morning and couldn't get enough blood no matter what I did. Ended up stabbing 3 different fingers. They are sending me another one out to try but I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. Just a warning for others who may want to try it. Trouble is I guess you won't know until you try how well the blood collection works for you.
