I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

How are they testing via blood? We've been offered testing with 24hr results in the government testing facilities (if symptomatic), but I was lead to belive its an invasive nasal/throat swab that no one is very keen to have unless they believe they're infected.

tanqueray10 · 10/05/2020 06:23

@Ernieshere Thanks for the email address - I think I had done .com instead of instead of co.uk. Have now ordered!!

Lalala205 · 10/05/2020 06:30

But it's a novel virus with no known vaccine? So what difference does it really make if you've had it or not? (genuine question), and if you test positive for 'antibodies' via a non verified test will you then feel 'immune'?

SailingAwayIntoSunrise · 10/05/2020 06:37

Obviously place marking as I'm curious!

Lalala205 · 10/05/2020 06:45

I work daily with three people who were tested, confirmed, went into iso and are now back at work. There was no immunity blood tests as far as they/I know? They just recovered to the point of being well again to work and not being symptomatic.

Ernieshere · 10/05/2020 08:49

Lalala205 This is the Antibody test, to see if you have had Covid 19, not to see if you have it now.

CherryStoneTree · 10/05/2020 09:08

@LaurieFairyCake or anyone else who’s bought an antibody test, can you let me know where from? Or message me?

I had originally bought one from the Harley street doctor but he was overwhelmed and I was refunded rather than sent a test. I understand about the false positives/negatives and would consider regular testing once a month here.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2020 09:09

So Dh has had his results back with an email
apologising for the delay (at 1am last night)

He is NEGATIVE

Mine still not here yet

Weird, this thread is not appearing in Threads I’m on

@laurieFairyCake - I might have missed it in your thread but did you have symptoms or was it just curiousity that prompted you. I imagine you will be negative if your DH is given how contagious it is.

Sandybval · 10/05/2020 09:34

When you say he is negative, that means he doesn't have a certain level of antibodies?

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 09:35

How do you feel about that result?

Was there any 'disclaimer' about that result?

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2020 09:40

I thought we had it at Christmas/through January

Yes, no antibodies in his blood

No disclaimer, tested on the Abbott machine

Absolutely GUTTED Sadsince he works in a comp in London with 1300 pupils and it's been rife

I'm still holding out I've had it - I had loads of symptoms and got better and then got worse again. It was nothing like a flu I had a decade ago.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2020 09:43

Hope you can see this (missed the top of sheet off with his identifying details)

I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

jewel1968 · 10/05/2020 09:46

@LaurieFairyCake - understand you feeling gutted but as there was no guarantee of immunity if you had it you are not really in any different a position. It could have been a false negative I guess.

Dec and Jan is a little early although I understand the King's research think it has been here since Jan.

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 09:47

Interesting how it says that you should still follow the guidelines on social distancing.

I wonder what it would have said if you were positive - when it comes to following the guidelines?

Saladmakesmesad · 10/05/2020 09:49

I’m really sorry, OP. I think many of us are hoping we’ve had it.

jewel1968 · 10/05/2020 09:49

And I just noticed the timing of the test. You were tested longer than 2 weeks after symptoms so not 100% reliable. So still possible you had it?

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2020 09:50

It's likely that if you've had it you may have some immunity for some time (with flu it's usually the season of the flu, a year)

It's also very likely that if you've had it that it behaves like other viruses in the sense that you wouldn't get it as BAD the second time you encounter it

Both of the above would have made me happier about him going back to school - they WILL go back and the teenagers are all over each other

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2020 09:53

No, I think the longer time ago you think you've had the illness the MORE antibodies you would have

So if we had it in January then I would expect a fuck ton of antibodies

MrsMummyBx · 10/05/2020 09:59

@LaurieFairyCake sorry to hear your OH didn’t get the result he wanted. Do update us when you get your results! Fingers crossed for your ones :-)

JemimaPuddleCat · 10/05/2020 09:59

This is really interesting, I know there's a bunch of MNers who were ill over Xmas/NY and are adamant they've had Covid-19.

Are you in belief that he didn't have it then Laurie, or do you think maybe the test was inaccurate?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/05/2020 10:02

Watching this with interest on behalf of a family member.
Do you think you’ll hear today op?

Futurenostalgia · 10/05/2020 10:06

Did you have the same symptoms as your dh? Was it around the same time?
