Food delivery for vulnerable people?

Greenleafer78 · 04/05/2020 16:49

Hi all
Does anyone know how I can get this? I've signed up with. Gov as instructed by my NHS letter. That was 2 weeks ago, I still can't get a shop.. Tesco, Morrisons and sainsbury aren't showing slots. Sainsbury say they don't recognise me as a vulnerable person.. All my details have been put on the. Gov site correct. Does anyone know? So desperate for a delivery, I have nearly finished the food box and stuff in the freezer.
Thanks xx

Have you tried Iceland if you have one nearby? Any groups helping folk locally?

superstar84 · 04/05/2020 16:52

Ring Tesco, they can check the list and add you to their priority slots

If you're really stuck, you can self refer yourself to the NHS volunteers, my local one is quite happy to pick up shopping, that would at least keep you going until you sort out a delivery from the supermarket.

Try the Morrison’s food boxes. Aldi are also doing these now, as are M&S.
Morrison’s keep releasing slots randomly just keep checking.

Have you received your ' extremely vulnerable and shield ' letter from either your GP or hospital consultant ?
My dh only received his about 2 weeks ago and as much as we tried we couldn't get any slots . We still can't get anything from Sainsbury's despite receiving an automated call from them about 6 weeks ago saying they would be in contact as soon as possible . We haven't heard a thing since and I've sent e-mails which are not acknowledged and they are not taking telephone calls.
We are regular customers of theirs , we bank with them, and have over £500 in nectar points to use. You'd think they would class us as customers they would like to keep.
Asda contacted us to inform us they class us as vulnerable and we don't even shop with them ! We do now.

Sainsburys have been pretty hopeless for me, everybody else, Asda, Morrisons, Iceland etc, has got it together and offered me slots, but Sainsburys can't manage it, so I've given up on them.

Did you make the mistake of ticking the box to say you don't want the free box of food? That was the mistake DH made as we didn't want a free box but wanted to be able to get deliveries as we can't go out. He's now ticked that box. We still don't seem to have made it on to the list but Tesco added us anyway. I'm still struggling to get slots with them but can get them occasionally.

Fallulah · 04/05/2020 17:44

You need to tick the box that says you will struggle to get food. You then will either be sent a box or, just recently, that now gets you the priority access. You can re-register if you didn’t tick that box.

Have you considered Morrison’s boxes? Mum and dad got one of those when there were no slots anywhere and were really happy with what was in it.

Same here OP. 4 weeks since I registered on GOV.UK. Been accepted but no contact from Sainsbury’s

dannydyerismydad · 04/05/2020 17:53

We couldn't get a supermarket slot. We were advised to tick the box saying we had no support to get food.

We had a food box today. Hoping the supermarket slots might open up for us too soon.

Most of the contents of the box have been picked up again by the food bank already. We don't need free food. We just need easy access to buy our usual weekly shop.

My local sainsburys has changed the way they are offering delivery slots to vulnerable people this week. They are only showing days with availability on the website, which is much better than having to click 21 times to see every day has no slots available. There have slots available every day for the next week, but none after that. Not sure what the reason for this is but it is welcome.

I had a Morrisons delivery last night that was a bit of a disaster in terms of all fruit and veg being unavailable, so I am particularly pleased that I can get a Sainsbury's delivery at the weekend as we have a little frozen veg left then are sure to get tired of meals of meat and crisps pretty quickly (particularly vegetarian me!)

Greenleafer78 · 04/05/2020 21:39

Thanks, I already did that but nothing showing yet :(

Have you googled to see if non-supermarkets are doing deliveries in your area? I've noticed more delivery options springing up as businesses adapt, eg a bakery local to me that in normal times only supplies trade customers is now offering deliveries to private homes, and I was able to get a bread delivery within a day of ordering.

Elouera · 04/05/2020 21:59

co-op is another one to consider.

Also, when you signed up on the gov. website, did you tick the box that you don't have any friends/family that can help deliver food? I believe this is supposed to trigger a delivery of a food box, but it might also affect getting delivery slots. You can go back onto the website and change this option if needed apparently.
