De register for food parcels

My mum is in the most vulnerable group, and initially, when I filled out the online form to register her, I put that she would need some help with food parcels. Since then, I have managed to get her regular food deliveries (she lives 300 miles away from me, otherwise I would help her).
She no longer needs the food parcels, and I’d like to take her off the list, so that other people can benefit. Does anyone know how I do this? I can’t see how to online.

This gets asked a lot, they seem to come from the local council so I would give them a call (your mums local one)

They don’t come from the council, they fine from the government you need to re register on the gov uk site and mark that you don’t need help with food

Mine are definitely arranged by the local council as I’ve spoken to them about it. If she does that with the gov website won’t they take the priority slots away?

You need to register again and say you don't need food help.

Someone may phone you up to confirm they are not needed.

However do not say you are getting them given to someone else who is vulnerable as they will continue to send them to you.

Go back on the gov site and re register just tick you don’t need help with getting food. I just did it for DH.

Hes had several welfare check up calls from the council, as they are given the list as well. He asked them about stopping, they said the gov parcels aren’t anything to do with them.

Thank you. I went through the registration form again, and ticked that she didn’t need help with food. (I really hope they won’t take away her priority Sainsbury’s slot, then she will need the food parcel!)

Other people on here have said that if you reregister as not needing help with food, you can no longer get priority slots.

We didn't want to risk it for DH's parents, so phoned their local council, who gave us the number for the company doing the distribution. We called and they said they would stop the boxes.

I managed to catch the delivery man today. He told me that he can go back and cancel our boxes.

There is a different letter in it now, hopefully it means the gov have cottoned on to people not needing as they now have slots, and can be redistributed to people with greater needs.

I woke up to an emergency box on my doorstep this morning. At the beginning of lockdown I'd registered and says I couldn't get food as I was self isolating and unable to get an online delivery. A woman from the shielding group called me two weeks ago to say they were sending me a food box but I asked her to cancel it as I was now getting priority delivery slots and was fine. I didn't want to get food that someone else would need. She assured me she'd cancelled it and changed my details. So it was a huge surprise to discover a big box of food on my doorstep today. I am shielded now but will try and get things to the local food bank via the local mutual aid group. I feel sorry for the people who have not been able to get food and have had to wait so many weeks for their food parcel.

@Bercows I posted on a local group on FB and my box was collected by a local school who are doing food bags for vulnerable children/families
They turn up, fill a bag and pay what they can whether that's nothing or a few pounds

That's a good idea. I've just had a call from the council and he said that changing my registered details might affect my supermarket delivery slot availability and to either use the food myself or to redirect to others in need if I can. He assured me there is plenty to go around for everyone who is vulnerable as I was worried I was taking food from others who might need it more than us. I feel quite overwhelmed by the kindness of the strangers who have been checking on me lately.

I don't know why people can't just give them to a food bank. We made a delivery to a food bank recently and the queue for it was actually shocking. Never ever seen it like that. They need a huge volume of donations atm.

@gamerchick people getting the parcels are unable to leave their property to deliver to a food bank, a voluntary group for covid response in my area will collect the food though

Mine has just turned up! I have taken some milk out as I have run out and left the rest for the school to collect later

A friend of mine rang the local council and got taken off the list. They told her if anymore came (they didn't) to tell the driver/delivery person.

Anyway we get them and stuff we don’t need I can not take to the food bank as I’m not in a position to deliver them, the people that get them are shielding so shouldn’t be going out to the food bank.

Well all this ring the council business has got me worried we would lose our supermarket slots, so just rang the council.
Maybe some councils are more involved than others, but I was told that we have done it right. To trigger the slots, you have to tick you need help with food and get the first box, and then go onto gov website again and cancel, but said that you def won’t lose the supermarket slots.

My council said it was absolutely nothing to do with them, and if I didn’t want to accept it I should hand it back to the driver and see if there’s a list he could remove my name from.

I only got my first box last week so I’ll see what happens this week.
