Office National Statistics Map search site. How many people have sadly died in your area?

And does it alter your opinion of anything Covid related if you know?

I'm not rural, but nowhere near London and I knew that it had been longer getting up here, but I've still not heard of many people I know getting the virus or dying from it.

The map search say that luckily for us, only 3 people have in my town. It seems like a lot of disruption for that, but obviously it would be a lot worse without all the measures being in place. It also shows that should we lift the restrictions too early for here, yet it being dictated by the progress in much heavier weighted areas that have been harder hit and are now improving, we may be in trouble!

32 in my area. I know 3 people who have died

Buttybach · 04/05/2020 02:21

My town really didn't take it seriously at all at first people were out in force down the beach buying chips and ice cream. It made national news

Whattodowhattodooo · 04/05/2020 02:28

🤔🤔 I know for a fact that AT LEAST 11 people have died within a particular postcode as my Nan was one of them. Considering ONS are showing ALL settings why would it only be stating 4 deaths?

TheDrsDocMartens · 04/05/2020 06:16

18 out of 11000

Aramox · 04/05/2020 06:20

12 in my urban area of several streets. I only knew of one.

Mopolop · 04/05/2020 06:29
  1. And I live in an area with a lot of elderly people so makes it seem safer than I otherwise imagined. Agree figures on cases would be more useful
Also just 1 in my parents’ area.
LoudBatPerson · 04/05/2020 06:33

8 in my immediate vicinity, which seems high considering I could walk from one end to the other in about 20 minutes.

In my town as a whole 28.

My local authority as a whole is showing 73 deaths per 100k population. Sad

Peggysgettingcrazy · 04/05/2020 06:33

15,000 people in my town.

Thats about half the official deaths. All in one Town?

Saucery · 04/05/2020 06:34

5 in my area. Difference between that and areas of deprivation around the nearest city is very apparent.

Blueblackrose · 04/05/2020 06:37

The data is deaths to 17th April and only deaths that were registered by the 18th April - that is quite a while ago and some people will be missing as their death won't have been registered before the cut off date.

Point 2. deaths that occurred in England and Wales between 1 March and 17 April 2020, registered up to 18 April 2020

In some cases it can take over a week or longer to register a death as is explained in the article.

The 17th April was also quite some time ago.

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 06:39

It says 2 however I understood that 6 died in the local care home so that is incorrect

flowerycurtain · 04/05/2020 06:40

9 in my small rural postcode. I have heard these at least 6 of them were in the local care home.

HarryBlackberry1 · 04/05/2020 06:46

Mine says 2, however 17 have died in local care home, so incorrect data.

Blueblackrose · 04/05/2020 06:47

As PP said you are using your postcode to find what 'middle layer super output' you fall in to.

This is a made up geographic area where the minimum population is 5000 and the mean is 7200 according to a Google search!

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 06:47

108 in dd's london area
16 in my area

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 06:48

Perhaps needs updating?

Blueblackrose · 04/05/2020 06:50

Deaths after 17th April or that were not registered by 18th April are not yet released people...

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 06:50

pheraps i am misunderstanding, as it says 108 per 100,000

Sameold2020 · 04/05/2020 07:00

I'm really shocked by this. Our area has the highest in our city. Maybe there are proportionately more elderly. We have 17.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/05/2020 07:02

Just 1 in a large rural area. We have a lot of over 60s developments and care homes and I've not heard of any deaths locally.

OpthalmosVerde · 04/05/2020 07:09

My “Middle Super Output Area” is very tiny, few minutes walk across, we are outer London. My allotment (4 mins walk away) is in another area and the bus stop I walk to to get to work is in a third and my GP (5 mins walk opposite direction) is in a fourth. 16 in those four areas together.

My local authority (scroll up the ONS page), which to me
is a much more tangible area and what I would consider myself area’ rather than a nominal handful of streets, is 91 per 100,000. That would be 304 people based on population figures from 2 years ago.

A lot of people have died. It sucks no matter where they are.

OpthalmosVerde · 04/05/2020 07:14

Also by Apr 18 (which these statistics include) we were at 17994 deaths nationally. We are now at 28446. So, very roughly, you can multiply the numbers you are looking at here by 1.58 to get an idea of how many people have died by now.

So my 16 in the immediate streets is actually 25

304 in my local authority area is actually 480.

Bloody hell.

CeeJay81 · 04/05/2020 07:15

0 in my immediate area. A few in some of the surrounding ones. It's about as far away from a city as you can get though. Although it does have an aging population.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2020 07:34

5 in my local area of around 5,000. I can imagine this is lower than actual figures. What about the very big care home less than 10 mins walk from my house? As we are all couped up in our homes, word of mouth information is not being disseminated.

zippyswife · 04/05/2020 07:36

9 in a population of 5000 makes me think a large amount must have already had it.
