Stomach bug symptoms..

Cinders29 · 03/05/2020 11:16

My DS(8) has had a raised temp alongside Sickness and diarrhoea ( not sure if he has a sore throat etc as he has limited communication due to autism and other neurological conditions ) he's had symptoms for the last 24 hours.

Under normal circumstances we would obv just assume sickness bug. But due to COVID-19 I'm unsure as to whether we now need to isolate for the next 14 days.

We live remotely with friends and family a great deal away and we also have a dog so isolating fully would be a nightmare however, of course if it's advised to we absolutely would but don't want to overreact ( as most of my friends and family have suggested we are, when we have said we may need to )

Anyone?

I'm here looking for the same answers. I'm supporting someone who had stuffy nose and headache Friday, escalating into vomiting and diarrhoea Saturday evening. I don't know whether it could be COVID or not

Bramblespoint · 03/05/2020 18:18

I would say you have to isolate. It's a raised fever and you don't know it's not COVID although it doesn't sound like it though.

Meredithgrey1 · 03/05/2020 18:25

I think you do, because of the fever. I imagine the rule about isolating if you have a fever or cough will be in force for a long time.

Onmyown1 · 03/05/2020 19:03

Not sure if it helps but when I went to the hospital this week they asked if I had any symptoms and listed them. One of the symptoms they said was stomach upset.

Cinders29 · 03/05/2020 19:37

Thanks everyone ! Just wanted to double check cus as I said some family think we're mad but then we've been following government guidelines and they think we're being over the top there too 🙄

@Cinders29 what have you decided to do? My ds has just had the same, D&V but no high temp. He can’t have caught anything from anyone as we haven’t been in contact with anyone for weeks. Wondering if it’s something he’s eaten.

owlstwooting · 03/05/2020 23:30

Hoping your DCs recover soon

Frustratedandworried · 03/05/2020 23:32

Hope he improves soon! I've been in bed with tummy cramps all day and last night and now my upper back hurts ,:/ worried it's going to develop further

BillieEilish · 03/05/2020 23:38

I have also had the worst stomach ache and back pain and unable to eat and fever.

I don't think I have ever felt so ill (it was last week. I couldn't have typed then, for example) I would have called an ambulance if it had gone on another day. I couldn't walk.

It makes me wonder... my lungs are very strong, but gastric wise is where I always get ill. My weak point.

BillieEilish · 03/05/2020 23:40

@Frustratedandworried I still have the upper back pain.

Londonloubelia · 03/05/2020 23:50

I’ve had Coron, diagnosed by GP and 111 but not tested. Diarrhoea and acute stomach pain was one of my initial symptoms before the ‘standard’ ones showed. I would definitely isolate and see if DS develops other symptoms . Hope he’s ok.

Londonloubelia · 03/05/2020 23:50

Corona!

onlinelinda · 04/05/2020 00:00

My covid experience started and ended with diarrhoea. 3 days at the start.

Cinders29 · 04/05/2020 08:10

He's perked up a lot today. No temp or sickness for last 16 hours but still has diarrhoea. We haven't been anywhere other than the shop but of course could have picked it up there but also wondered if it was something he'd eaten ( he's constantly in the fridge eating things he shouldn't )

We've decided to self isolate to be on the safe side. You just never know and i would never want to pass it on to someone more vulnerable. But chances are, it's just a stomach bug, it's a hard one.

We have a fields at the back of our house so I'll probably take the dog over there for a run as it's always empty and I won't have to touch anything or see anyone but that's about the most I'll do. Luckily managed to get a food delivery shop too so that's made it a lot easier to not have to leave the house.

Hope you all and DC are well soon. X

Update - we've had to come to a&e as he's got a fair bit of blood in stools and heart rate is high. Took his heart rate earlier cus he had a seizure ( he's epileptic also )

They're saying bacterial infection or covid and eating heart rate is possibly high due to being dehydrated. Not sure if we have to stay in yet just waiting to see if heart rate settles.

Oh God, hope you're all ok OP Flowers

Cinders29 · 04/05/2020 23:24

Yeah fine at mo, he had another seizure whilst here and needed rescue meds and oxygen so very thankful we were here and his diarrhoea's been terrible and starting vomiting again.

We're staying in now so will have covid swab soon. So at least will know for definite what it is

I'm sorry to read your update Cinders29

Hope your ds recovers soon Flowers

ThePortlyPinUp · 04/05/2020 23:52

Two of my colleagues had these same symptoms and had to isolate as we are frontline workers, each had two swabs approx 5 days apart and all were negative.

LennyPugGoat · 04/05/2020 23:57

Well wishes

Keepdistance · 05/05/2020 00:24

Oh no hope he feels better soon!
I think d&v with covid is more common in children.
Hopefully just a normal bug

Cinders29 · 06/05/2020 15:25

Corona result was negative 👍🏼 so that answers that. He's perked up a bit today - thanks all for well wishes XX
