How's lockdown near you?

I went out today for a dog walk and things are definitely busier here. More cars, people and my local park had lots of people sat around. Its definitely changed in the last few weeks. I'm in SE London. Hows things where you are?

Esptea, I think our lockdown rules would have worked OK if only our government had imposed them at a sensible time rather than letting infections get out of hand.

Thisdressneedspockets · 02/05/2020 23:27

Just as you would expect. Roads so quiet that families can safely cycle on them or step out onto them to pass at a distance.
Parks fairly quiet with people keeping their distance. Beach even quieter.
No queues for m&s simply food and a handful of people in the shop.

AlexaShutUp · 02/05/2020 23:36

I went out in the car today for the first time in over 6 weeks, other than nipping up the road to deliver shopping to my elderly parents. I had to pick up an essential household item, and drove around 10-15 mins from home. I was really shocked at how many cars were on the road. No idea whether it's busier than it was a few weeks ago as I wasn't out and about to make a comparison. However, there was little evidence of a lockdown at all - just looked like everyone was going about their normal business.

WitsEnding · 02/05/2020 23:42

SW, there are more cars on the road every day but far fewer than before lockdown. Lots of people in the parks, I'm planning to walk on the pavements instead for a while as it's quieter.

I can see a point coming where keeping the moors and beaches closed will mean more pedestrians in the urban centres than normal - usually there are few of us doggedly exercising day after day. There are already more cyclists on the pavements and footpaths than pre- virus.

Busier
The good weather keeps flushing them out
( I say that because I’m out and about too)

ToffeeYoghurt · 02/05/2020 23:48

Say it enough times and it becomes reality.

I am in SE London too OP. I haven't noticed a big change in the last few days. There was a bit of an uptick at some point last week, but generally it still looks like lockdown. Slightly more traffic, but not anything like normal. Four bus routes viewable from my window inc three double deckers. For most of lockdown the impression I have got is that nearly all are completely empty, about once or twice you'd see a single passenger or two. Now still pretty much empty, but more common to see one or two passengers. It must be bizarre (but a relief) to drive round an empty bus all day.

Can't tell. I don't go out much.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/05/2020 05:36

Roads a bit busier. But yesterday we cycled out to the Yorkshire Dales (not far for us). The roads were dead. It was lovely. There were loads and loads of cyclists but there always are.
A bloke yelled at us for stopping in the village to eat a biscuit we had with us. We didn't even get off our bikes. I felt that was very over the top. Always used to stop at a cafe in that village in the good old days but feel like never going back now.

I also live in SE London, it's very quiet here. If I do go out at the front of the house and that isn't often during the day time, there are hardly people walking around and not many cars compared to previously. I don't go out at all, have things delivered which suits me fine, but it strikes me that others in the neighbourhood are also being sensible at the moment.

Son lives in Sidcup and will go to a supermarket in his car; he says he sees more people out and about but he does live just off the high street so I suppose he would. Other than that, he doesn't leave the house, works from home for now.

bettybeans · 03/05/2020 05:51

Suburban Scottish city, pretty scenic area, near beaches, hills and not far from urban/commercial areas either. Was very quiet but noticed more people appearing from Friday onwards. Had to wait to turn out of my estate onto main road when going to supermarket because of the traffic. Sounds weird but it was noticeably different.

There's a shift. I guess it was always inevitable at this point.

I'm looking forward to life resuming a tiny sense of normality (it won't be normal at all) but it also very much feels like the start of a second wave.

therealmrshardy · 03/05/2020 05:59

Very busy here in the west mids

NewYearNewTwatName · 03/05/2020 06:06

I had to go to pick up some pet food yesterday from a garden Centre.

When I got there it was heaving the car park was full, people were parking in the over part on the grass.

not one person had a mask on or were trying to cover the mouths and noses, the staff that were outside helping with compost didn't either. people were going in and out without having to que or social distance, people coming out with plants and plant pots.

I sat in amazement for a while then drove home, I didn't want to risk it. I'm now going to have to go out today to different shop further away to get my pet food, I know they have social distancing measures in place there though.

Inkpaperstars · 03/05/2020 08:46

Are all these people desperate for lockdown to be tightened and to go on longer? Or are they just thinking they can be the exception? Or too scientifically illiterate to grasp what is happening?

LadyGAgain · 03/05/2020 08:48

I despair. The killer virus hasn't gone anywhere. Still over 700 dead yesterday. STAY THE FUCK AT HOME (if you're lucky enough to be able to)

Lynda07 · 03/05/2020 15:25

NewYearNewTwatName, you can buy your pet food online. I used to do that before we had lockdown, it was easier.

H1978 · 03/05/2020 15:28

No idea only been out once since lockdown and not in the last three weeks

namechangenumber2 · 03/05/2020 15:36

Fairly quiet here, felt annoyed yesterday seeing two households out together, not even trying to socially distance with each other. Even kissing each other as they said goodbye! Hmm

NewYearNewTwatName · 03/05/2020 15:48

Lynda07 its live food, and if really desperate they will deliver.

We kept enough until now, and it shouldn't have been a problem popping in to get what I needed, until I saw what was going on.

I have what I need now though, thanks.

ScreamingKid · 04/05/2020 22:38

All is quiet in my corner of SE London today. I guess it was just a weekend flurry.
