I went out today for a dog walk and things are definitely busier here. More cars, people and my local park had lots of people sat around. Its definitely changed in the last few weeks. I'm in SE London. Hows things where you are?

Much busier here too.

The80sweregreat · 02/05/2020 18:49

Sorry : essex area

ScreamingKid · 02/05/2020 18:52

I wonder if its because Boris said something about sharing the details of the plans to life lockdown next week. Maybe people have taken their foot off the gas. Or maybe I should rephrase that and say they are now putting their foot back on the gas pedal due to all the cars. Grin sorry had to say that!

Alot of people weren't observing the 2m rule either.

Roads are busier here the last few days and lots of people out and about and not social distancing. Neighbours over the road have had several visitors out on the street but again no social distancing. N'hants

ScreamingKid · 02/05/2020 18:58

Yes I've noticed neighbours having more visitors as well. Not that I spend all day curtain twitching but I could hear them through the wall talking.

Much busier here too. I don’t believe that traffic graph in the daily update, it only shows a tiny increase in motor vehicle usage. I would say it’s rocketed in the past week or two

ScreamingKid · 02/05/2020 19:03

Its really noticeable here today. It took us a while to cross a road earlier which for the last few weeks has been quiet. Its interesting. Perhaps it's also the weather being nice after the rain earlier in the week.

It's been a low key lockdown really compared to Spain or France (for example. )
I suppose the rain we had this week kept people in but if it gets hot myself week then it'll be a free for all.
The town here was busier on Thursday as it was pay day.
Without police on every corner it was bound to happen.

ifonly4 · 02/05/2020 19:03

It's been busier here as well. Part of it could be payday, amongst the retail sector it's pay day weekend, but you'll obviously get others going out on payday itself (think those who've been furloughed have had their payment now as well). A few more shops have been opened, encouraging people to want to buy certain items. I've tried to avoid the fact I really needed some slippers and gave up this week and drove to Sainsburys as fed up with cold toes in flipflops, others will need items. And others are just becoming more relaxed!

Elouera · 02/05/2020 19:04

Central London is a ghost town. Hardly anyone in Trafalga square, no one in Chinatown/Leicester square, but a few running/walking along the Thames.

My local highstreet though seems busier! More cars, more people on buses and more on the street out and about.

LilyPond2 · 02/05/2020 19:12

Perhaps a bit more car traffic today, but no signs of mass breaking of lockdown. Still seeing buses go past with no passengers. People walking past are either alone or couples or family groups.

Dadnotamum72 · 02/05/2020 19:14

You can look at the detail behind the briefing graphs car usage 35% beg april 42 % end April.

Passed no one on my walk last night at 7.30pm, passed no one on my run of the same route this morning at 9.15.

Usually both times would have people out and about, especially since the weather was alright for both.

KoalasandRabbit · 02/05/2020 19:17

It's very quiet here but we are rural so it's quiet lockdown or no lockdown. Grin

VioletCharlotte · 02/05/2020 19:19

It's been noticeable busier here, with more cars on the roads. I'm sure supermarkets are allowing more people in. It definitely felt busier today, I've felt quite safe up until now, not the case today.

PrincessConsuela12 · 02/05/2020 19:21

Roads definitely busier & people are not observing the 2m rule! I try to keep out of the way & people are walking right next to me. I'm 9 months pregnant so it's not ideal but I enjoy getting out for my walk each day

Noworrieshere · 02/05/2020 19:23

Busy here today. We're by a beach and the prom was properly busy. Not helped by the nice weather and a couple of cafes open for takeaway coffee and ice cream. We left early and went home.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/05/2020 19:26

What lockdown is that? The people of a large town in Kent with an Int train station appear not to be aware of one that’s for sure.

homeschoolmyarse · 02/05/2020 19:29

I was pleasantly surprised that everywhere was deserted. Went past 4/5 local shops, just 2/3 people waiting outside and distancing
Hardly any cars on the road

InFiveMins · 02/05/2020 19:33

I am just outside of Manchester. Very very busy today, like a "normal" Saturday.

Rosehip10 · 02/05/2020 19:36

Buses in London much busier too and no way of measuring this and passengers do not have to touch in/pay

SpillTheTeaa · 02/05/2020 19:36

Not overly busy. People still crossing over to avoid each other. I find the runners ignorant around here though. On a few occasions I have not been on the same side of the road but they have ran across the road and joined the path right behind me. Not saying all runners are ignorant by the way! Just the ones around here.

twinnywinny14 · 02/05/2020 19:40

Much busier here in east Kent, Costa coffee and B&Q are open locally, plus people given up on lockdown. Overheard my neighbour saying (loudly) to his mate on the phone he’s not doing it anymore as the peak has gone and there’s no need!!

pfrench · 02/05/2020 20:04

Johnson has said 'we're over the peak now', so that's it... everyone out. Our glorious leader said we're done!

Meanwhile Drs start thinking about a second peak in 2 - 3 weeks time. Just in time for half term!
