Feel really down for my sons development

He didn't have the best start in life and was put up for adoption, eventually coming to us.

I've spent the best part of a year getting in socialised at play centres, with cousins and so on. I'm not sure if he's slightly delayed on his speech but I was hoping the nusury I chose could stimulate him a bit more with his speech.

He was due to start on a Monday but friday before we went into lockdown. I've now returned to work off adoption leave (but thankfully working from home). Like many here... We havnt seen family members or children in around 2 months.

I just feel like he's missing on a lot of development milestones whilst stuck here. I've tried doing a lot of activities with him but there's only so much I can do.

My two are adopted - the safety and security of being with you and developing a secure attachment to you will do more for his development than any nursery, socialisation or anything else and he’ll be in a better place to engage once nursery etc does start. The best thing to support his language is chatting with him through the day and reading to him. You don’t say how old he is but I’m assuming he’s a toddler - groups etc at that age are nice to have, but he’ll develop as he should in a safe, loving, attuned family.

My two are older and have been with my DP and I coming on 3 years. They are both flourishing with having safety and security and time to develop relationships with each other. When it’s time to go back to school they’ll be in a great place to restart formal education.

I meant to say, it might be worth asking for your thread to be moved to the adoption boards - lots of experienced, knowledgable adopters there with friendly support who really “get” the stuff that comes with adoption.
