Covid 19 symptom tracker app

Is anyone using this app? A research project with kings college London. You report your symptoms each day to help track symptoms in the community.

They have just sent an email to say I've been invited for a test from the symptoms reported.

I had awful abdominal pain yesterday and stabbing chest pains felt like my chest was on fire. Absolutely fine today though....

Oh no! 😆
I found it so hard especially when you’re not supposed to touch anything but the tonsils. Impossible!

Eeyoresstickhouse · 02/05/2020 07:27

I have been using it since it started. Had a sore throat this week, logged it on the app and invited for a test. Test on thursday and the results (negative) came back this morning at 6am.

IndieTara · 03/05/2020 22:35

Also invited for a test from using the App.
Just went to book the test online and it says my nearest testing centre is Manchester. I live in Birmingham! Surely that can't be right?

Realitea · 04/05/2020 09:39

Keep trying as availability will change. Yours might be Worcester

kimlo · 04/05/2020 10:22

@realitea you are supposed to swab the tonsils? I don't have any, does that mean O couldn't do the test?

Realitea · 04/05/2020 10:47

There is some information in the sheet about if you’ve had them removed. I think you just swab where they would have been

Oxyiz · 04/05/2020 10:53

Did your vials have liquid inside them?

IndieTara · 04/05/2020 13:12

Just tried again and a Bham site came up saying there were 70 slots available In the next 5 days. However clicking on each day there are actually none available!

Realitea · 04/05/2020 19:09

@Oxyiz yes they have the liquid inside to preserve it

17million · 04/05/2020 19:28

just a query - I do not have a smartphone - so assume I cannot use the app.
I would have said that a very large number of vulnerable/over70s do not have a smartphone with access to an app.

Are not the over 65s allegedly being targeted for testing ?-

Realitea · 05/05/2020 08:58

You can print your code as it’s also emailed to you. There is no app to be tested.

If you mean the app where tracking and tracing is done, there are alternatives for those people without a smartphone. I doubt it will be as accurate though as it uses Bluetooth to track who you’ve been near. I would recommend everyone gets a cheap smartphone just for the app.

Lindy2 · 05/05/2020 09:26

You can report for other people on the app.

Mine is set up so I report daily for myself, my 2 children and my mum who is in her 80s. I specifically added my mum as they were asking for older people to join.

They seem to update the app quite regularly. There were a lot more questions to fill in when I added my mum and children on than there were when I joined at the beginning.

It's still very straightforward and quick to do though.

funmummy48 · 05/05/2020 09:31

I’ve been using it for about a month too.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 05/05/2020 09:45

@refusetobeasheep did your test come back positive? Husband is a key worker and has had those symptoms for almost 24 hours

refusetobeasheep · 05/05/2020 09:51

I had the test on Sunday but the results have not come through yet, sorry!

MadeForThis · 05/05/2020 20:50

I've reported a sore throat and tired for 2 days. Just been invited to do a test. Been isolating at home except for weekly trip to the shops. I highly doubt I have it.

Is it a waste of resources to go for a test? Or is this useful for their research to test people with a wide range of symptoms? Lots of test slots available. Would hate to take a test from someone that needs it.

Lindy2 · 05/05/2020 21:47

MadeForThis if they would like you to take a test then it's worthwhile to have one done. It must be helping with research (which is why you signed up) and if there is lots of test availability everyone who needs a test should get one.

jennylindinha · 08/05/2020 23:14

Just to give you an update: did my test at home on Tuesday, courier picked it up on Wednesday, results back today - Negative! I'm impressed at the speed (I am in London though which may help). I can report the result through the app tomorrow. Hope it will help with the research.
