Will you sign up for the NHS contact tracing app?

I can't see any reason why I wouldn't. Has anyone got any concerns about it?

ActuallyItsEugene · 01/05/2020 22:55

Absolutely not.

I can't believe people are so willing to have their locations and friends/family/acquaintances/every contact they have traced.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 01/05/2020 22:57

Not the slightest chance!

LilacTree1 · 01/05/2020 23:00

I hear the app will be discussed on Monday here

committees.parliament.uk/event/906/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/

Not sure if that goes on the Parliament channel or not.

PuzzledObserver · 01/05/2020 23:00

If you’re going dogging you ain’t gonna be respecting the social distance - unless you have some very strange technique - so the responsible thing to do would be to keep your smartphone close at hand. Imagine how many people you could infect if you were an enthusiastic dogger.

LilacTree1 · 01/05/2020 23:03

Puzzled “ Imagine how many people you could infect if you were an enthusiastic dogger.”

Thank you, that’s the only thing that’s made me properly laugh today 😂

Daffodil101 · 01/05/2020 23:05

Can’t believe people are against downloading this

Lindy2 · 01/05/2020 23:15

I'll sign up.

It always intrigues me why some people are so against there movements being known. What are you doing that's so confidential and secretive?

I really can't imagine that my trips to the supermarket or my allotment are of any real interest to anyone. Please feel free to track my completely uneventful life to keep everyone safer.

Lindy2 · 01/05/2020 23:15
  • their not there (I need sleep).
Sarahandco · 01/05/2020 23:24

No - It is a slippery slope towards the carrying of a phone becoming mandatory in years to come.

LastTrainEast · 01/05/2020 23:38

So we have to trade our privacy for our freedom? if you're ever on a ship that sinks you will be required to sit in a lifeboat. You won't get to choose which lifeboat and if you get out you will be punished by drowning. Other people in the lifeboat will be able to see you too! :)

I still can't see how this app will be helpful though unless we think only a few rare people are infected. And unless we test everyone daily we won't know who has it anyway.

LastTrainEast · 01/05/2020 23:40

I will use the app though providing someone can convince me it can work.

gingajewel · 01/05/2020 23:41

@TheGoatIsHere thankyou for your explanation, I was trying to find something that explained in more detail what the app would do.

Yes I would get the app if it means I can see my parents and sister fairly soon!

Abbccc · 02/05/2020 00:02

If you are of the opinion that we "are already tracked anyway" then what's the point of this app?

NoLongerAnEasyTarget · 02/05/2020 00:07

No I definitely won't. I will rebuff any type of personal tracking, despite whatever reason they give to try to say it's good for us.
We don't need to give up our freedom to deal with this situation.

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:10

The problem is, if the majority of people won’t download the app, it’s so much harder to track/trace.

I’m assuming that those if you unwilling to download it are willing to remain in lock down until a vaccine?

isittheholidaysyet · 02/05/2020 00:18

I never put on my Bluetooth or location on my phone.
And rarely turn on mobile internet. So that app won't work will it?

(I know I can still be found by my phone of the government want to)

What about my parents? Mum has a dumb phone. Dad refuses point blank to have one.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 00:18

Nope. I don't have a smart phone and have no desire to get one.

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:34

Ah well, fuck it, I’m not downloading it either.

I’ll advise all my friends and family to do the same. It’s a bit like staying home when others are going out. Why should I bother?

Pretty much every nation who have managed to come out of lockdown have track/trace in place. I’m sure the Uk will be fine without it.

Godzillasonice · 02/05/2020 00:57

How does this work with phones like mine which is only 3months old and dies after an hour of turning on Bluetooth. I'm also not aloud a phone on me for work as it's a safeguarding risk so will be off the grid for most of the day.

I also don't like the idea of being tracked and what happens to those who don't want a smart phone or who can't afford them?

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 01:02

There’s an interesting thread from last week here, it covers a lot of queries including dumb phone or no phone

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3890941-Can-somebody-please-explain-what-contact-tracing-is

psychomath · 02/05/2020 02:28

I would. I never go anywhere interesting anyway!

monkeytennis97 · 02/05/2020 02:56

Yup

flashbac · 02/05/2020 03:04

Wow. Can't believe how naive people are.
And the privilege of 'I have nothing to hide so why not'
If you are in a minority and/or are politically active, a whistleblower etc. What about those people? Should they happily download the app?
Why do you think dubious companies are involved in this? For charitable reasons?

MinkowskisButterfly · 02/05/2020 03:17

Yes and I would hope dh would. I am choosing to not leave the house if it can be really helped as I am high risk but not quite at shielding level) but DH sees hundreds of people a day (shocking how busy the store is - social distancing is apparently non-existent 🤷🏼‍♀️).

sobeyondthehills · 02/05/2020 03:22

Nop, but I also don't have any smart things in my house, my phone turns itself off if an app gets downloaded, so that is also a no.

I wouldn't be thrilled if my partner got it, but that is going to be his choice
