Will you sign up for the NHS contact tracing app?

I can't see any reason why I wouldn't. Has anyone got any concerns about it?

No and I won’t be getting rested at any point if it’s offered

Axlcat · 01/05/2020 18:14

Allow someone to track my every move? No way. Nothing to hide but not signing up to allow someone to have potentially total control over me. It’s effectively micro chipping.

ineedaholidaynow · 01/05/2020 18:16

@guiltandchocolate why wouldn't you get tested?

Elouera · 01/05/2020 18:16

No way!

Do you not recall the multiple previous cock-ups with NHS systems???

apples24 · 01/05/2020 18:18

No. I really don't feel comfortable with it. And if it becomes compulsory, I'll just be leaving my phone home.

imsooverthisdrama · 01/05/2020 18:18

Yes anything to get back to normal , I could not care less they can monitor my every move at the minute.

guiltandchocolate · 01/05/2020 18:18

I’d be worried about if at some point some kind of quarantine would be introduced for those who are carrying it/positive

Bugsy73 · 01/05/2020 18:18

In principle I'm more than happy to have the app, but I'm confused by how it works. If I was alerted that I'd been in contact with someone who has registered symptoms (could this just be some random person in the supermarket?), then I have to isolate for 14 days, then if on day 15 I'm unfortunate to get another alert, that's another 14 days in isolation??
With the vast array of symptoms that are corona related, I may never leave the house again!!
Unless I'm incorrect on all of the above points.....

guiltandchocolate · 01/05/2020 18:19

Plus I’ve had too many tests as have dc over the years where we’ve been given the wrong results so I wouldn’t trust it at all

Absolutely not.

The potential for the invasion of privacy is enormous. I'd also be concerned that they'd start using this to enforce lockdown measures - and I CBA to start dealing with the paperwork associated with the fact I'm self employed and have to leave my home to work.

Acidrain · 01/05/2020 18:21

I would like to say no but i think a lot of workplaces/leisure/pubs/gyms will use this as a way to use the business... Thats what im scared off. Having to show the app to show you're clear go get in the gym etc, it scares me that it couod be used negatively

Klouise777 · 01/05/2020 18:21

For those saying no take a look at South Korea. They've got the situation apparently under control and one reason is the contact tracing app. They are happy to have it if it allows them to be safer, protect loved ones and have some resumed normality. This was on BBC news last night
So those saying no I hope you think of the bigger picture and the reasons behind it

wonderstuff · 01/05/2020 18:22

I'm reluctant. I don't trust the government and their mates with my data and I'm not convinced that it's going to be effective. I think they need to focus on increasing human contact traces.

Runningfar · 01/05/2020 18:23

Yes I can completely understand the privacy concerns.

Might be a trade off for easing lockdown?

Although I certainly don't want to be tracked as such. I guess I feel as though we sort of are already. There's CCTV everywhere, we pay everything on card, we carry smartphones everywhere that already track us up to a point.

I realise governments don't collect this data. But this is exceptional circumstances.

OP posts:
Thighmageddon · 01/05/2020 18:23

Of course I will.

We are already tracked in so many ways and I'd quite like to stay as safe as I can and not leave my teen ds without a mother.

ineedaholidaynow · 01/05/2020 18:24

Seems to have had the desired effect in South Korea

Theforest · 01/05/2020 18:25

I will need to read more about it when it comes out, but very probably.

winchestersandwich · 01/05/2020 18:26

Selfish and shortsighted if you're saying no. Do you want us to be stuck in lockdown or semi lockdown forever?

Klouise777 · 01/05/2020 18:26

@R1R2 exactly this. All the no replies I wonder how many are from people using a smart phone which is already aware of where you are and where you go etc

winchestersandwich · 01/05/2020 18:27

And if you've got privacy concerns what exactly have you got to hide? If you're going digging up the common then maybe avoid that for a while!

winchestersandwich · 01/05/2020 18:28

That should be dogging not digging- although digging works too if that's your thing.

Runningfar · 01/05/2020 18:28

Some people on mumsnet actually do, many have admitted to really enjoying it.

As I say, I don't relish the idea.

But I think that we are already tracked way more than we think about.

OP posts:
Runningfar · 01/05/2020 18:29

You could always leave your phone at home when you go dogging. Probably should do that anyway.

OP posts:
Northernsoullover · 01/05/2020 18:29

Yes I would. I can't see what data they could collect that they don't already have? I leave Google maps logged in on my phone. I did think twice about it but figured it might be handy if I ever go missing or need an alibi Grin
