Just watched CBBC medley of 'Consider Yourself'

Actors and presenters singing from home.

I just feel so fucking sad about all this and so worried about the impact on kids.

Oh it made me weepy too!

Runningfar · 01/05/2020 09:09

It's sad isn't it? You'll be told on here that your being hysterical, that kids are resilient etc.

If this does continue then it's lost childhood. I really hope that over the coming weeks/months we find a way to make things work so that children can have a little bit of normality back.

I knew this was going to be about ‘consider yourself’, it’s lovely isn’t it?

Nothing like this has hit two generations. Like the war, things will recover. Somethings not the same. It is our responsibility to make sure of damage limitation, to ourselves, our children and our economy. You may feel very sad but after a while we need to galvanise and repair. Children need optimism and hope. Remember the film Life is Beautiful in the concentration camp where the father pretends it is all a silly game? Parents did that in the war often to protect children and many children survived the war not damaged. In contrast in the weeks after 9/11 children had absorbed so much information, news and trauma from their parents there was a lot of child mental ill health. I am old enough to see that too much sharing of our fears and concerns is not good for children. Small children in particular need to feel safe and that their parents can protect them from harm. I am not saying we arent in for a rough ride, but it is up to us to help our children feel strong and empowered. This is another reason the blame game will not help any of us. It has happened

Not a blame game and would never let kids know.

I just feel very very sad. And not so much for my kids who are fine but for others who will be losing more
