Covid Toes

So, this is a thing apparently. Or could be.

Has anyone or their DC experienced this?

My DS, aged 18, had a weird, non-blanching rash on his toes and heels about three weeks ago. I actually posted about it on here. Now I am wondering if it could have been Covid. Myself and DH have had low-key sore throat, lethargy, and the teeniest cough but nothing more.

Can't comment on the toes but am interested in your and your DH's experience. Have you been tested for CV?

I have had a low-grade sore throat for about 10 days. Sometimes it's scratchy, sometimes it hurts enough for a paracetomol; it's worst overnight. Sometimes, because my throat is a bit raw, I cough a little but it's easily solved with a few sips of water. I don't feel fatigued - WFH is not v. taxing - but I have some congestion/runny nose. How long did your symptoms last? Are they on-going?

I’ve had a non blanching rash on my leg atm that the doctor couldn’t pinpoint why. I’ve had an ear infection and on antibiotics so they think it could be linked. Wonder if it could be covid related then? We think my son had it right at the start of lockdown.

Dh & I are waiting for tests atm.

He has what looks like classic covid toes (the dr who saw it is Italian & suggested it straight away) but no other symptoms at all - he’s 45 though & it’s usual for for that age group to have toes but nothing else.

His toe thing started on Friday - on Sunday I woke up with a sore throat, awful headache and burning nose/sinuses. I got a very mild fever on Tuesday night, which comes & goes still (worse in the evening). Head still hurts, throat is sore, I’m fatigued & have muscle pains.

Don’t know if either are covid or it’s just a coincidence.

Neither of us have a cough/chest pain/SOB ... fingers crossed it stays that way.

I don’t feel anywhere near as I’ll as I’ve been with flu, but nothing like when I’ve had a cold - no runny nose or sneezing no watery eyes.

It’s mainly feeling crap generally + fever + headache + burning eyes nose throat

My DD has covid toes. She has had a cough for 3 weeks, started dry then turned mucusy. Slightly elevated temp but no official ‘fever’. We noticed the toes last weekend and wondered what it was - I thought perhaps mulluscum (can never remember how it’s spelt) or athlete’s foot (not that I’m really familiar with that). It wasn’t until I read on here the other day that I realised it was ‘covid toes’ exactly the same as some photos.
Called 111 who referred to GP, GP had a look (video call) & said it could well be. She’s now on anti biotics for chest

Anyone else also had Covid Nips?

Similar to the toes thing but me and a few of my besties have and we definitely think it’s that.

I think I had Covid, but wasn't tested. I was not really unwell, except for 3 days, and have felt far worse with flu. At the end of three weeks I had Covid Toes - because it wasn't a recognised thing then, I was puzzled but didn't associate it with Covid. This was a couple of months ago though. I'm in my 50s.

@tarheelbaby no we haven't had a test. To be honest we haven't felt unwell enough to think that we have had it (although perfectly possible, obviously).

DS's toes didn't look like chillblaines. Looked like little purple dots. Weird, though, as at the time I suspected that it might be some kind of 'blood thing' but the doctor (by video call) said it was dermatitis.

I guess we'll never know.

@gingergingerginger thank you for your response. No one in my household has an symptoms at all.

Like you and your DH, I haven't felt unwell enough to consider a test, much less consult any doctor, even my lovely neighbour GP. That was why I was so curious about your symptoms, since I have similar. There's so much concern about coronavirus but surely there are other viruses out and about so presumably I'm fighting one of the lesser ones.

When I had chillblains my toes were very painful, itchy and red and after about 3 weeks the pain went away. It was when they were pain-free that I noticed the rash of purple dots on my toes.

I remember having chillblaines as a child. What I had which I think was Covid toes was different. Hard to describe, a discolouration and a painful tenderness, like my toes were badly burnt and tender. And I also had a funny brown bruise appear on my foot, just out of nowhere.

The Covid Toes -seems to fit with the rash babies/small children are getting.

Yeah I did, at the same time as I got a very mild dry cough and tickly throat. No other symptoms. 'Covid toes' hadn't been mentioned at the time so I didn't put two and two together until later, but it was noticeable enough that in normal times I would have seen a doctor about it.

I had this ! I had what looked like a nail bed infection on two toes..and a temperature ...my nurse at the practice told me it was unlikely to be a nail bed infection casing a temp and told me to isolate ..I then developed a sore throat , cough , wheeze , headache, pains and awful fatigue . So guess it was linked. My podiatrist later sent me some CS of covid toes ...

Mine looked more like chickenpox than chillblains btw, but not itchy.

DD (15) had what we thought were chilblains about 3-4 weeks ago followed by a sore throat. At the time we didn't connect the two. DS1 (16) has since told me he had a mild similar rash/sores on his toes which he thought were chilblains. I've read that 'covid toes' mainly affect adolescents. I'm fairly sure they both had it as I can't explain otherwise how both got the rash as chilblains are not as far as I know contagious.

Yes @girlofthenorth, exactly, like a nail bed infection, that's like mine. But I got it at the end of the symptoms you describe having at the beginning. So we have the same symptoms but with the Covid toes appearing at different stages...
I know viruses often work their way through bodies in different ways, so this might have been what happens here.

Ok, that's really weird! I had a brief cough with chest/back pains and some weird muscular aches. Of course, we all self isolated and everyone else was fine.

Except my twins, both of them had weird purple feet and got some blisters from nowhere. It was quite bizarre, but this might explain it!

My six year old daughter had rush behind her neck and blotches on her arm. This was after she had a fever and cold. No cough. They was too spots that looked like chicken pox on the face but she has already had it at 3yrs. I came to the conclusion it was cv after reading something similar from the experiences. She had one day of a prickly body too. No sign of of any of that now..

I suffer with chilblains, chronic and once they have gone past the itchy stage they leave like purple marks on your toes. Your feet only have to be exposed to cold for a short time to get them. I did freak out last night about covid toes but then DD (13) reminded me I'd just had itchy toes a few days ago so it's 99.9% just that.
