Are you still paying for dc dance, swimming, football classes

ToldYouOnce · 30/04/2020 09:02

Dc do quite a lot of activities outside of school; dance, football, swimming. I'm still paying for these by direct debit every month. I have not heard anything from the owners, just classes are cancelled until further notice.
Are people still paying for these classes, mine are about £50 a month and after being furloughed it's money I could do with but then I feel tight cancelled.

No.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/04/2020 11:40

Swimming- no.
Beavers/Cubs- Yes. Both DH and I are leaders aswell, and know that the financial needs of the group aren't that much altered by not physically having meetings. Most parents are continuing to pay.
Skiing- a PAYG anyway, so no lessons no payment
Cricket- I hadn't got t the signing up stage, I was holding off when saw one things were going (was supposed to start May)

Aria20 · 30/04/2020 11:44

Trampolining have paused all payments and ballet we're doing classes online but my daughter wasn't engaging with the online so offered to pay a retainer to keep her space once they are able to reopen. Thankfully my son had already quit karate lol so was one less to pay

BlackAndWhiteCat01 · 30/04/2020 11:50

Please consider whether they can offer any online content, whether you can afford to support the sports groups/studios while they are unable to operate. Good businesses will reward you for this when the time comes

As for charitable organisations like Scouts and Girlguiding - PLEASE continue to pay subs!! These are donations and without them the organisations will struggle in time the longer this goes on.

BlackAndWhiteCat01 · 30/04/2020 11:51

^ also if anyone runs a group like this do not be afraid to communicate with parents and ask for such!

Moo678 · 30/04/2020 11:51

Swimming and gymnastics cancelled our payments automatically. Both my girls dance several times per week and this is now delivered as 1 zoom lesson and several videos. Girls aren’t very interested in online stuff. We were offered a 20% reduction but I’m still paying full fees as husband I are still working (healthcare). I really want the company to survive. My girls having been dancing with them since they were two and love the teachers. It’s like helping a friend.

onemouseplace · 30/04/2020 11:55

Swimming DD was paused when the leisure centre shut. Dance lessons we haven’t been invoiced for this term yet, and I suspect we won’t be. School clubs obviously cancelled. The only thing we are still paying for are piano lessons, which they are having via Zoom.

TrashPanda · 30/04/2020 11:58

The only one we had was football for the 10 year old, but it was a team for the season rather than just a weekly club. We paid in full last September for the season. We were in the process of looking at swimming lessons for reception child but hadn't signed up yet for which I'm now quite grateful.

SellFridges · 30/04/2020 12:04

Swimming has paused.

I have continued to pay for football for both children. We can afford it and I would rather the club was still there next season for them to play again. I also know that others may not be able to afford it now, or later so this feels the right thing to do.

I am also paying for language lessons online which were not something we did previously.

RedskyAtnight · 30/04/2020 12:05

Am I think only one that wants to know what Kingcole's DS does that is £200 a week?

The only thing we are paying for is music lessons which are being taught by zoom. Though, tbf, the only other clubs they did were PAYG so clearly we're not going, so not paying ...

Kingcole · 30/04/2020 12:08

I think if I was only paying a small amount per term fine I would pay, but it is a lot. I am at a loss as to what to pay and they haven't suggested anything.

We are both working but as mentioned above our jobs are understandably precarious at the moment so it is unreasonable to say we are working so carry on paying.

crustycrab · 30/04/2020 12:09

King £850 a month?! Flying lessons? Grin

Vanillaradio · 30/04/2020 12:09

Swimming they have said don't pay the invoice for summer term, they will contact us with a new one when they are able to resume.
Drama- normal direct debit has been stopped. I am paying in 3 week blocks for online classes, this is about half normal price.
Any other activities go through after school club and vary every half term so are just not being offered at the moment.

NeilTheBaby · 30/04/2020 12:14

Rainbows- paid last term but obviously stopped running before term ended. Not paid anything this term.
Football- pay as you go so no.
Swimming- 1:1 pay as you go so no.
Stage school- they said fees weren't expected but a contribution would be welcomed as they still have staff to pay etc. We chose to pay in full as it's dd's absolute favourite thing to do and they have been great with giving online activities and weekly zoom classes. The fact they told us to choose what to pay went down well with me.

Makegoodchoices · 30/04/2020 12:22

Ours reduced to a quarter of the price and continued a twice weekly online class. This reflected no hall bookings and assistant instructors (who have real jobs) but kept the franchise owner ‘employed’. It’s worked really well.

JennyWren · 30/04/2020 13:05

As a Guide leader I have asked my unit's parents to continue to pay if they can, and reduce/stop if they need to. We are running weekly meetings on Zoom, and the girls are still earning badges, which we need to pay for, and although our leader training session has been postponed it will still happen eventually so that is a bill deferred, not cancelled. And our big annual bill for our insurance/programme/etc. fee to central Girlguiding will still need to be paid as normal, so we have to cover that. We are not paying for the use of our Guide hall this term, though, because our District can afford to dip into reserves for one term to cover that, so we are saving about a third of our income that way - we are using that saving to cover subs that would have been paid by families who can't afford it right now.

We can't carry on like this forever, but it will keep us afloat until (hopefully) we can start back in the autumn. As a unit we are fortunately to have a bit of a reserve, as we've budgeted carefully and fundraised since opening a few years ago. It is Girlguiding policy that each unit should run with a small reserve, and this is exactly the kind of eventuality that policy is in place for, but it isn't a bottomless pit, so I'm really grateful to parents who are continuing to pay. We operate at a costs plus tiny emergency margin basis and our summer fair fundraiser this year is going to be nonexistent.

nex18 · 30/04/2020 13:12

Dd is having some dance lessons via zoom, I’m paying a reduced rate for these (partly she’s having fewer lessons). I offered to continue paying the regular price but this was declined.

Onone · 30/04/2020 13:24

No my daughters swimming school froze payments

APurpleSquirrel · 30/04/2020 13:25

The gymnastics fees have been automatically stopped by the leisure centre. We pay for swimming in a lump at the beginning of term, so once lessons restart the term we paid for will restart. One toddler group moved online after lockdown for the final sessions.

OhCantThinkOfANewName · 30/04/2020 13:33

We are paying for explorers but haven’t heard heard from them at all. Dd helps with cubs and they are having weekly zoom meetings.

Football we paid in full in September, but there is talk of the regional fa taking no fee next year so hopefully that will filter through a reduction in fees this September.

Another football academy we had paid £300 in October and are less than half way through the course, will be interesting to see if we get any refund. Dd will be too old from September to continue.

NotGenerationAlpha · 30/04/2020 13:36

Swimming I have already paid for the summer term as it's in advance. But I don't expect to pay for Autumn term because we are already in credit.

I've withdrew them from gymnastics and martial arts. They have online lessons, but I already got Les Mills on Demand, so they are doing that and also PE with Joe Wicks.

Ice skating is renewed every 6 weeks and they cancelled all lessons so nothing to pay.

NotGenerationAlpha · 30/04/2020 13:37

Girl guiding isn't taking any subs but I believe the Scouts are. I'm happy they don't do anything. DH and I are WFH and I really can't be doing another set of work at home.

andannabegins · 30/04/2020 13:57

We are still paying for dance lessons and they have been moved on line. It is not as good because that is just not possible but we need to pay to ensure the school survives the lockdown

nowaitaminute · 30/04/2020 14:04

Nope!

EmpressMaudie · 30/04/2020 14:06

Gymnastics - no
Scouts - yes
Ballet and dance - yes

One dance school has provided Zoom classes, and we'd already paid in full, in advance, weeks ago, until the beginning of May. Another dance school is charging very minimally for Zoom classes. The last dance school have sent work, links and tasks but not currently providing interactive classes so they haven't sent out new invoices.
