Are you still paying for dc dance, swimming, football classes

Dc do quite a lot of activities outside of school; dance, football, swimming. I'm still paying for these by direct debit every month. I have not heard anything from the owners, just classes are cancelled until further notice.
Are people still paying for these classes, mine are about £50 a month and after being furloughed it's money I could do with but then I feel tight cancelled.

I'm paying for gymnastics, to be fair the club are sending loads of online and interactive content but my kids are refusing to do any of it Hmm I'd like to cancel but then we would lose our spaces when everything re-opens.

DaisylovesDonald · 30/04/2020 09:06

Ours did mainly after school clubs which I have not paid for. My direct debit for swimming lessons was automatically cancelled. The other club they did that I paid for monthly I have stopped the payments. That on its own was nearly £50 a month, and if it had just been for a couple of months I would have carried on but as we have no idea and it could be many months then it seemed silly to carry on, mainly because the future of dh job is uncertain so we need to be sensible with funds.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 30/04/2020 09:07

No, we are not

Enb76 · 30/04/2020 09:14

I think, in general, if you want these things to be available when we come out of this you should probably keep paying. I'm still paying for riding lessons because the owner of the school still has 12 ponies to look after. Music lessons and language lessons have moved online so while the content isn't the same I am happy to keep paying.

However, I have not been furloughed and in normal times, if my income dropped dramatically I would cancel extra-curricular activity in order to survive myself. You have to look after yourself first.

We are paying a retainer for swimming club to cover ongoing costs. Other sports are mostly council / big sports club run and are pay as you go. One of mine also does a dance class, which is a single teacher who hires a hall once a week and they have cancelled all classes. Fortunately, the teacher just does one weekly class so isn't relying on it as a full-time income.

Kingcole · 30/04/2020 09:22

I am not paying for an expensive after school activity for DS. It is a couple of hundred a week. The teacher hasn't sent this terms' fees and hasn't asked for us to pay. TBH I'm not sure I would atm.

DH and I are both on the frontline and have some health issues worries so although working I think we need to keep our money due to zero hours contract and possible illness.

Do you think most people are paying even though invoice hasn't been sent?

Bubblysqueak · 30/04/2020 09:23

No our leisure centre has cancelled all payments for lessons which is good.

OverZoomed · 30/04/2020 09:59

I’m still paying as I want the activities there when this is all over. Dance, drama and music has all gone online - tennis, swimming and all the afterschool sports clubs can’t. I would be re-considering if either of us had lost our incomes, but we haven’t.

usernotfound0000 · 30/04/2020 10:15

I am for gymnastics, but mainly because they have said they won't survive if we don't. Swimming, ballet and baby classes we aren't paying.

Concerned7777 · 30/04/2020 10:19

Swimming was paid in advance so he will be in credit with lessons when they start back football clubs told us to stop paying until next season

salemcat · 30/04/2020 10:19

We are for rugby & tennis.

Qasd · 30/04/2020 10:20

Dance is being delivered via zoom we pay a reduced rate. Tennis a d swimming we are not paying as they cannot be delivered remotely

kingkuta · 30/04/2020 10:23

No, they have all now suspended payment and confirmed places are secure. They are also providing lessons through summer and xmas holidays to make up for weeks lost so far

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 30/04/2020 10:28

I am still paying for activities, some have given out online activities where possible.

All activities (three between 2 preschool age DC) have said they will honour the sessions paid for once they can reopen. We’ve been incredibly lucky in that sense.

Sparklfairy · 30/04/2020 10:33

@Kingcole It is a couple of hundred a week.

Lala241280 · 30/04/2020 10:46

I’m lucky I don’t pay anything for my sons football but as it’s cancelled saving money on petrol
Not paying for my daughters gymnastics as I am furloughed and it’s £90 a month
I work in the travel industry and need to save all I can incase I don’t have a job to go back too

namechangenumber2 · 30/04/2020 10:53

I'm still paying for Rugby and Scouts. Thankfully neither are huge payments

merryhouse · 30/04/2020 10:54

karate club has classes on-line and has asked people to make contributions as they feel able

Music Service lessons have started up via Zoom (tuba at 8:30 Monday morning! Fortunately our attached neighbour is still leaving home to work...) so that's continuing as normal though the ensembles obviously aren't happening. We have a relatively low rate anyway, and ensemble membership isn't any extra.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/04/2020 10:55

I'm paying for Beavers as they are setting badge work activities online to do at home. I'm not paying for swimming, the instructor has said we don't need to pay.

SparkyBlue · 30/04/2020 11:00

I had paid in advance for the ballet term for DD and for speech and drama. I wouldn't expect to be refunded for either as the speech and drama is a relatively small amount and the ballet school is amazing and does a lot of charity stuff and the lady who runs it donated all the proceeds of school branded merchandise to charity last Christmas so not at all money grabbing so I have no issue paying again when the school reopens in September.

Rollergirl11 · 30/04/2020 11:01

I’m still contributing a reduced amount to DD’s dance school otherwise it won’t survive. They are providing YouTube videos for the girls to learn and they can send in a video if they so wish. Her other ballet class is being done via Zoom but the teacher hasn’t discussed fees going forward.
DS’s football club is paid annually upfront so we’ve already paid that and not expecting then to refund.
Both DC’s gym membership subscriptions have been put on hold while they are closed.

Hadenoughfornow · 30/04/2020 11:04

Yes I am.

I could have cancelled but as yet my circumstances haven't changed.

When my eldest has been injured a couple of times both swimming and gymnastics have cancelled our payments. Although I would have been happy to pay in these instances too.

They are in a fight for survival so if my few quid a month helps then I am happy.

Fantasisa · 30/04/2020 11:08

All of our children's activities aren't charging which is much needed financially at the moment. Some are running a lower priced activities online such as dance but we aren't taking part.

Kingcole · 30/04/2020 11:19

In a sense I wish the teacher would say pay a certain amount but they haven't said anything. Confused I feel awkward asking if they want a payment and also feel I may need the money saved too.

Is anyone else reconsidering continue activities to such a high level when all this resumes
