Whilst obviously delighted that mother and baby are doing well I fear the distraction on our PM when he should be 1000% on top of this crisis.

Mmm ,anyone else feel paternity leave in the offing ?

PicsInRed · 29/04/2020 10:12

Was the baby due now?

Was she full term?

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2020 10:13

I thought it was due in June? ( nothing to do with me of course)
I also thought that Boris still looked quite ill yesterday.
It's lovely news of for them , but I can't help feeling we should have a new temporary leader now as obviously he might go on leave?

Itisasecret · 29/04/2020 10:13

I think people will rightly be worried, especially with his recent illness, that he may not be leading. If he doesn’t delay his paternity leave then it will be a PR disaster. He can delay it and he should. How many military personnel miss the birth of their children for example, because they are on active ops? He’s in charge of the whole thing, he should follow suit, no leave.

vera99 · 29/04/2020 10:15

At least he has a track record of a strong work ethic and abandoning his children. So we should be alright.

Yes, I thought the baby was due "early summer"?

Congratulations to them both - hope all is well and mother and baby both healthy.

Boris did look exhausted the other day. Perhaps this was in the background.

ImaginaryCat · 29/04/2020 10:18

Well isn't that rather helpful timing for him! Just as all the martyr bollocks has started to calm down following his illness, and people have begun to remember what a shit show the man is, along comes another distraction for the fawning idiots to look at, while ignoring his ongoing incompetence.

1forsorrow · 29/04/2020 10:20

Bit of an extreme way to get out of PMQs.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 29/04/2020 10:27

It sounds like the baby maybe came early. I’m not a Tory or a Boris fan at all but I think your comments are a bit much. He wouldn’t have had much choice in when the baby arrived I’m sure. Let’s just hope that the baby is ok, as Carrie had coronavirus a few weeks ago didn’t she?

vera99 · 29/04/2020 10:27

Newborn baby in the flat at No 10 as we face the biggest crisis since WW2. What could possibly go wrong? As this is a 'war' I would argue that Carrie and babe should go to live in their house in South London and leave Boris alone to get on with the job. Modern parenting can wait a while. Or he resigns and Rishi takes charge.

^^ This.

SpringBlossomIsBeautiful · 29/04/2020 10:30

@EveryLifeHasASoundtrack I completely agree with you. Some people are just nasty.
I congratulate them both & hope everyone is ok

PicsInRed · 29/04/2020 10:30

My concern - at both the personal and political implications levels - is that coronavirus had previously been associated with premature birth. I hope that we have received the full story and that all is and are, indeed, well.

Kortnee · 29/04/2020 10:31

He wouldn’t have had much choice in when the baby arrived

True. But he'll still milk every drop of advantage from this he can.

Twix42 · 29/04/2020 10:31

Just read this as 'Boris's Baby BJORN"
Grin

CorianderLord · 29/04/2020 10:34

I'm not a Boris fan but he hardly asked for his baby to be born prematurely did he? How fucking horrid some posters are

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2020 10:35

I knew some people would put the boot in!
It's a new life and her first and it must be stressful as she was ill and his been very ill etc etc. Anyone having a baby during this pandemic must be so fearful.
However , I think we could do with a new leader.

SquishySquirmy · 29/04/2020 10:37

Hope Carrie and baby are doing well.
Boris has not been a very involved father with any of his previous children so I don't see why he would start now. Plus they will be able to access help not available to most new parents (lockdown or not).
If they need a live in nanny they have space and money to obtain one.

I doubt Boris will be changing any nappies.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 29/04/2020 10:39

True. But he'll still milk every drop of advantage from this he can

Well, if he does, that’s for him to have on his conscience. People should be sympathetic, human to human, for what he and his partner have been through in the last few weeks. But yes, if he’s back at work, he should be 100% capable of leading the country through this crisis. I think with what they’ve been through and now with a new baby, he’d be crazy to be back at work.

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2020 10:40

It's true they can have the best help but it's still a worry with this virus about and so on. Newborns are a stress on their own!

Anyway, I hope there is some one who can take over. Trouble is it'll be the two Dom's in charge : Raab and Cummings!

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2020 10:41

What a disingenuous thread to start. Just to have a pop.

Didkdt · 29/04/2020 10:42

God lockdown has exacerbated some people's mean streaks honestly give yourselves a shake.
I wonder what nasty things were said about you when you welcomed a child with bad timing .

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2020 10:43

Why is this in the Coronavirus topic?

Lumene · 29/04/2020 10:44

I hope their baby arrives alive and well, and thrives.

We need a stand in PM until Boris is well enough and comes back from paternity leave.

We have been without a working leader for what a month now? Biggest crisis since the war.

Either our PM is in charge and well enough to govern and not on leave.

Or he’s still unwell/on paternity leave/both (fair enough) in which case he’s not leading our country and we need someone who is until he’s back.

SquishySquirmy · 29/04/2020 10:47

This will be interpreted as sticking the boot in, but what an irresponsible man he is...

If I was pregnant during an escalating pandemic and my fiance was boasting about shaking hands with all and sundry, whilst in a job that involved meeting many people, and going against basic advice regarding infection control despite being party to more information than most people I would not be impressed.
Problem is for his whole life the rules have been for other people - not him.
But privilege and bluster and arrogance cannot protect from an infectious virus.
You ignore those rules and you put yourself (and those you live with) at risk whoever you are.

I am very glad he recovered though, and really do wish Carrie and the baby the best.
