What will happen to supermarket queues when it starts raining?

I know lockdown had been a different experience for different people but the sunshine must have made it a bit more bearable for everyone. Apparently it's going to be wet now for quite a few days.

What impact will that have on the queues? Yes, I know there's nothing to stop people queuing in the rain but will they? Will the usual quiet/busy times apply or will everyone shop in the dry spells?

How desperate would you need to be to queue for, say 40 min, in the rain?

Will good humour be maintained or might this be the tipping point?

Large umbrellas would be excellent for enforcing distancing in queues.

Umbrella and coat and just be grateful it's April going into May in the UK and not a wet cold February. If I get soaked a hot shower obce back home will warm me up and sort me out.

I remember looking at the news reports of Italians when they were in their lock down before it was dark wet and cold. They managed ok so I'm sure we will.

Oh and it gets windy too, so if anyone can recommend a brolly that doesn't get blown inside out that would be great.

Umbrellas will help with social distancing too.

We went shopping yesterday am, no queues because it was wet. Surely everyone has a waterproof jacket? I am used to being in the rain, horse person, so it does not bother me.

No queue at sainsburys yesterday - was prepared with brolley etc but the rain obviously put everyone off, so actually it's a good time to go

Wear a coat, you won’t melt. If you need food/personal care/cleaning products, you need them and will have to queue. I agree that it might reduce the unnecessary ‘poppers’ but those who have to shop will continue to do so and will just have to get wet. It’s not a massive problem.

Have we really descended to this? Questioning how on earth we, the British, will cope if we have to queue in the rain!? If the answers not obvious to you I genuinely despair.

@Destroyer you obviously don’t live in Scotland. It rains a lot here.....I wish it ‘barely rained’

if everyone has a huge golfing umbrella it will be a lot easier to keep a 2m distance from eachother.

I hate umbrellas. I live in a windy place and they get destroyed easily. I am also 5’9’’ so the amount of blokes with umbrellas who have hit my on the way past I’d unbelievable. Sick of chasing someone to retrieve my eyeballs or half my scalp from their bloody huge umbrella spokes! Why do guys always use the biggest umbrella they can find. Hopefully social distancing means I won’t get smacked by them half as much. My friend actually took a guys umbrella off home and threw it on the road as he had poked her with it about 8 times waiting to cross the road.

I will wear my lovely waterproof big coat and not worry too much.

DS works at a well known supermarket. Go half an hour before closing time, dont go early in the day. You will be trailing behind the elderly who are allowed to get in first and tend to linger.

The store has now got assistants who will actually ask people to move on and not spend the time chatting and clogging up the aisles. The first hour of the morning is by far the worst.

Deliveries come throughout the day. Toilet rolls are in plentiful supply. Flour is still tricky and for some reason Rinse Aid! I have brought a litre of rinse aid via Amazon and that will last me for a long time. Having said that we are using the dishwasher 3-4 times a day!

I'll tell you what happens when queuing in the rain.

You return from the supermarket in a fairly grumpy mood, cold and feeling a bit meh.

I know this because dh had to queue for half an hour yesterday in the rain.

I can't get a decent full length one I have a crap one that leaves me with wet patches between boots and coat.

@ihopeyourcakeisshit not full length but the longest one I have is mid thigh. I got it from mountain warehouse. I don’t mind if a bit of my trousers get wet.

@Likethebattle Scotland?! You obviously don’t live in the rain forest if you think it rains a lot in Scotland!

@destroyer I live on the west coast and over winter there was not one dry day. I spent most of it getting soaked. It rains for about 363 days a year here.

There was no queue at my Tesco yesterday, first time In weeks. I suppose all the ‘I’ll just come for something to do’ types didn’t fancy it so much in the rain.

I can’t get wound up by rain. If it’s so dreadful, move 🤷🏽‍♀️ But I’m sure you’re not bothered either, really,

I’ve just been to Aldi. Took a brolly but no queue.

There was a man at the till in front of me only buying a box of ice pops because his grandchildren were visiting.

I queued in the rain, mind it was only spitting.

As the good northerners we are, no one bothered with a coat.
