What will happen to supermarket queues when it starts raining?

I know lockdown had been a different experience for different people but the sunshine must have made it a bit more bearable for everyone. Apparently it's going to be wet now for quite a few days.

What impact will that have on the queues? Yes, I know there's nothing to stop people queuing in the rain but will they? Will the usual quiet/busy times apply or will everyone shop in the dry spells?

How desperate would you need to be to queue for, say 40 min, in the rain?

Will good humour be maintained or might this be the tipping point?

It was raining when Dh went shopping last week (or may have been the week before) and he said our Tesco were using the unused cafe to coil people round to queue instead of being outside

I will use a brolly and queue, I only shop 2 times per week.
I am not looking forward to the cold and wet though, I know the rain is needed for the garden/ farm crops, but the sunshine has had a massive impact on my ability to stay positive and upbeat. My house is tiny so the garden has been a godsend.

I'll put my wellies back in the boot and get them out when I get my shopping bags, although I'm not due to go shopping until next Tuesday and I think the rain should have passed East Midlands by then.

I would venture a guess that people will queue in the rain and, yes, risk becoming moist.

I’m sure it’s not beyond the supermarkets to put up some gazebos?

The queue at our local Tesco is under cover so I guess more people may go there than the local Aldi which is mostly outside.
I have already worked out some good times to shop with little queue so hopefully wont get too wet

I don't think I've queued for more than 10 minutes anywhere. I won't melt in the rain

Tesco have said they might make you wait in your car in bad weather. Not sure what will happen if you haven’t got a car

“To help limit the number of people in-store, when you arrive, we may help you park your car.

If it’s raining or particularly cold, we may ask you to stay in your car to queue – we'll let you know when you can come in.

Floor markings in our car parks will help you to keep a safe distance when queuing.

Where necessary, we’ll limit the flow of people coming into our stores to make sure they don’t get too busy.”

WHen this started I did my first queue in the freezing cold and my second in the rain. Just wrap up warm and bring a brolly. If some people stay home, all the better.

Sadie789 - The wet weather’s going to wipe a few smug faces away that’s for sure.

Who's smug? And why? Confused

I think I will prefer it.

Although I am looking forward to my Tesco being open 24 hours again, I like shopping at 2am.

I am unsure if that is going to happen at all though

People will get wet. I don't think that any will melt, but it might put off some unnecessary shoppers.

If I didn't go places due to fear of getting wet, I'd never leave the house.

I hate getting wet, but it's a fact of life where I live. If I have to queue for half an hour in the rain then so be it.

It barely rains anyway and you won’t melt in the wet.

It might not rain much where you live, but we have had a lot of rain this winter, and generally get a lot of rain anyway.

If it rains I will go dressed appropriately. I don't understand people who go out in the rain just wearing a hoodie.

There’s definitely smug people around saying “enjoy the time”. But they will have cars to wait in.

I will be giving all my money to Ocado and M&S simply food where there is no queue.
