Schools not going back until September?

Mummypig2020 · 26/04/2020 20:17

Do you think this is true?

How will it happen with children moving up/starting school etc?

OP posts:
SquirtleSquad · 27/04/2020 01:12

@Macca84 what do you mean by butch?

Toomuchtrouble4me · 27/04/2020 01:23

I don't know why people are being so rude op. I haven't read any posts on this because i'm not on this site daily - but they can see the title and not click!
As with everything - it will all get sorted in the end.
I won't be sending mine back until september anyway, no matter what the schools do.

collateralmadamage · 27/04/2020 01:42

Nobody knows!

Today's thread has started early though.

It will probe June staggered.

Monty27 · 27/04/2020 06:03

@00Macca84 butch? Eh? The OP is asking something that they should as a parent just know or have found out for themselves.
What's butch about?

CrystalAlligator · 27/04/2020 06:06

Butch? Batch? Did you mean bitchy but not want to get your comment removed?

HandfulOfFlowers · 27/04/2020 06:15

Nobody knows, but mine will be at the gates the moment they do, along with the children of everyone I know.

AuntieStella · 27/04/2020 06:18

You're allowed to swear on MN, so batch will just be a typo

And although multiple threads on exactly the same theme are a regular feature of MN, there is a tolerance level even here. Schools going back does seem to have r ached it.

And of course on many many sites it's utterly normal to see if people are already chatting about something, rather than ignore all existing convos to start yet another thread.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 27/04/2020 06:41

I don't understand why everyone gets their knickers in a twist about the same topic, before Christmas every second thread was about preppers.

I do know that plans are being put in place for DD's primary school to open after May half term. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen but plans are being made now so that if they are given the ok they can open safely.

WickedGoodDoge · 27/04/2020 07:05

Italian schools are not going back until September. There has been no announcement about British/UK schools.

I thought John Swinney had announced Scottish schools weren’t going back until next year (which for us is mid/end Aug)?

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/04/2020 07:34

@Macca84
Are ewe auditionung fir Allo Allo? As far as I’m awur all perfirmicis ‘ave bin cansilled.

Back to your question op. God knows. There have been so many threads and zero answers. It makes you wonder the government doesn’t know what it’s doing... although I know they don’t. Wink

Scottishgirl85 · 27/04/2020 07:34

I'd say 1st June (England) with staggering and an effort to social distance. The virus will still be here in September. Seems sensible to me to let more people catch it over summer when hospitals are able to 'cope' better.
Scotland finish a month earlier, so there would perhaps be little point in them opening for a few weeks.

tinytemper66 · 27/04/2020 08:21

Edward Argar, the health minister, has said this morning on Sky News there are no plans to re-open schools yet.

tinytemper66 · 27/04/2020 08:23

Wicked...apologies I had not seen that report about Scottish schools. 😊

roses2 · 27/04/2020 08:30

I'm not even sure how this would work if we think there is going to be another lockdown in flue season at the end of the year?

Appuskidu · 27/04/2020 08:39

Nobody knows. I doubt the DfE know.

Reginabambina · 27/04/2020 08:41

I doubt it but who knows? Not the government by the looks of it.

enjoyingSun · 27/04/2020 08:54

Haven't Wales said they're not returning til September?

Think there was a may not in the sentence that seemed to get dropped by some head lines.

I've since seen articles suggesting Welsh teacher unions , Heads and Welsh goevrnment are talking about how to get back and there saying not before June but possibly that last half term Y10, Y12 and Y6.

However nothing has been decided by anyone yet.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 27/04/2020 09:04

@suze28
Have you got a link to the EEF article, I've had a look but can't find it. I definitely think that idea has 'legs'

Bigfishylittlefishy · 27/04/2020 09:09

Hopefully June 1st.

suze28 · 27/04/2020 09:12

@FabulouslyElegantTits I've just looked back and it's called looping and is really positive for PP chn. I haven't seen the article, just a reference to it in our briefing notes. Will get back to you if I get more details.

CaryStoppins · 27/04/2020 09:20

It’s likely to be sometime between June and September but no one knows yet.

My uneducated guess is Year 12, 10, 6 and possibly some childcare providers in June and then depending on how that goes other years in July or September.

puffinandkoala · 27/04/2020 09:21

Macca84 it's just an extension of an all girls' school common room.

Scotland has said August.

Italy has said September because their holidays start in early June anyway.

I have a friend in Germany who is a teacher and she was back last week.

puffinandkoala · 27/04/2020 09:24

As for another lockdown in flu season - we have a vaccine for flu. It's not always very effective but I see the Australians are asking everyone to have it this year. Seems like a no-brainer, because if it does work, it reduces the numbers of people with flu and therefore leaves resources available for those with covid.

I don't normally have a flu vaccine but I will this year.

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 09:24

Germany had a lot fewer cases than us yesterday.

Ylvamoon · 27/04/2020 09:29
