Has anyone had the rash

So. 4 weeks ago I think I had Coronavirus. Temp over 40 and awful cough. Go prescribed me ABx and steroids but it would not shift. DC went on to develop coughs.

Unknown to me my line manager had also at the same time been admitted to ICU and was confirmed Covid. Which makes me even more sure !

For the past three weeks DH, DC and I have developed a chicken pox / hive rash /. Bruising. . Went to the chemist who said might be scabies or bed bugs. Grim.

Bought all the cream. Bed bug vacuum ! All the works. Thankfully big enough house to sleep in separate rooms.

Still ongoing after 3 weeks soo made an apt with gp over zoom

Gp adament that it is Covid 19 related and is one
Of the symptoms!

Anyone else

Posted this is another thread but it makes sense here too!

Ds is 10 and came down with a bad cough and fever 5 weeks ago. He really struggled with it. High temp for the first week, the cough lasted three weeks, had aches and pains for a couple of weeks, he had a chicken pox-type rash all over at one point, now has an outbreak of cold sores (never had them before), and now has a really painful sore throat. Obviously we’ll never know if it’s coronavirus or not, but he’s never usually ill (colds and tummy bugs last about a day!) so I’m suspicious.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 26/04/2020 10:01

On the second photo it’s a bit hard to see, but his arm is his normal colour at the top of his arm, but from halfway down his upper arm to his hand is red with itchy bumps.

northernlittledonkey · 26/04/2020 10:02

Wow, that’s so weird both DD and I had a rash around 2/3 weeks after getting what we think was Covid. Same rash lasted 24/48 hours.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 26/04/2020 11:44

northernlittledonkey That sounds really similar - ds got his rash on the second week and it lasted just over 24 hours.

LEM post viral rashes are definitely a common thing, but ds1 hasn’t had one before that I can remember, so I think of it as a case of “unusual for him” rather than “unusual in general” if that makes sense.

It’s weird that it’s been itchy for a lot of people. I tend to think of viral rashes as red/blotchy skin but maybe this particular virus is triggering a weird response, similar to how chicken pox affects the body. (Disclaimer- not a doctor and I don’t know what I’m talking about Grin )

My dd age 12 has just been diagnosed with shingles, she has this rash on top right side of back with swollen lymph nodes she's not poorly with it

Has anyone had the rash

SophieB100 · 26/04/2020 20:34

Shingles rash follows a nerve, when I had it (I was really quite poorly with it) and the doctor diagnosed it (lower back) and told me exactly where the next spots would appear, and days later they did.

12 is young for shingles - I hope your DD is better soon.

Easttt · 26/04/2020 21:41

I’m sure shingles was mentioned in the news prior to Covid-19 happening because cases were on the rise.

Realitea · 26/04/2020 21:52

Can the rash appear as the first sign?
I woke up this morning with crazy itching. I now have a similar rash to these here on my feet.
I’ve felt a bit nauseous and tired today with a headache.
I have just started a course of antibiotics though for a bite so who knows!

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 26/04/2020 23:22

How odd. A week or so after having what I suspect was covid me and my DD came out in the itchiest spots which I assumed were bites. Then DD also got a tiny cluster of blisters on the back of her leg - again incredibly itchy. Lasted about a week then disappeared

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 26/04/2020 23:30

This was the back of DD's leg. Its just disappeared now

Has anyone had the rash
wibdib · 27/04/2020 06:59

@Realitea unfortunately I think it can - I read an article on the news a few days ago saying that they were realising that a blotchy rash on the feet was often the first sign of covid infection, particularly in kids and younger people.

They’d only noted it because a parent had taken a seemingly-covid-free child to the doctor’s with it in Italy who then went down with covid 2-3 days later. They were too busy to think about it initially but then did have a chance and realised that it was a definite symptom in the ‘some but not all’ people get when developing covid symptoms to go on the list of things to look out for.

Sounds like the list of symptoms needs to include a post or late-onset rash too!

Hope you’re feeling better soon!

My dad had a terrible rash (5 weeks on he still has it but not nearly as bad) he is now using a paraffin ointment on his legs and ankles which the hospital prescribed after all the creams, lotions and varying strengths on antihistamines tried by the dr didn't work. He had to send photos into a specialist at the JR in the end. He honestly looked like a boiled lobster, his face swelled up, his skin cracked, but his feet and ankles started weeping, it was awful. They told him it was his immune system.going into overdrive. Thankfully it is getting better now though.

Marmie4 · 27/04/2020 08:15

I am recovering after being ill for several weeks, the usual cough, aches, fatigue, lack of smell. Whilst at my worse for about a week I had what looked like hives on my face, round my mouth and on my neck and cheeks. Spots would be there a short while, disappear and then appear somewhere else. It was definitely part of the virus, not had it before or since.

Realitea · 27/04/2020 08:57

Thanks @wibdib
I feel ok today. It could be bites. Me and dd have both been bitten a lot lately.
I’ll have to wait and see what happens.
My ds had the virus at the end of Feb - He started with a rash on his face three days before all the other symptoms. Only diagnosed by speaking to a doctor so no test. I only got bad headaches for a few days so I still don’t know if we’ve had it or not. Dd had a terrible cough and slight temperature at the time
It would’ve been great to have had testing

alreadytaken · 27/04/2020 09:48

viral rashes are common but it could also be this dermnetnz.org/topics/helicobacter-pylori-infection-and-skin-diseases/

Bunnyfuller · 27/04/2020 19:49

Can I join?

15 Apr youngest (14 yrs old) developed a weird rash on one hand and one foot. She had a headache for a couple of days and was very low, grumpy and tearful. Nothing else.

Last week eldest (15) started complaining her feet were really itchy and painful. It continued, thurs night she didn’t sleep as was in so much pain. One toe looks like the chilblain like pic in Covid toes on google. She can’t even put a shoe on. The gp gave her antibiotics on fri but just seen this stuff today. DD feet go very blue/dusky if she isn’t wearing woolly socks constantly.

Thoughts?

ofwarren · 27/04/2020 19:52

Sounds like hand foot and mouth bunny

ofwarren · 27/04/2020 19:53

@Marmie4
That is what I had. Like a transient hives.
So weird.
When it was on my cheek, it was hot to touch.

Bunnyfuller · 27/04/2020 19:57

It wasn’t HFM, both have had it when they were a lot younger, and this was nothing like it. Especially the one with the toe!

VerbenaGirl · 27/04/2020 20:47

I had GP diagnosed Covid from end March to mid April, then this weekend I came out in a rash. Did wonder if there was a link.

whenwillthemadnessend · 27/04/2020 22:39

My son has what I thought was a chilblain for two weeks now. I also had hives which following a virus is pretty standard for me but we have not been ill really. I've had a cough for a while and dd was very ill after her ski trip. Roll on anti body test???

Kittywampus · 27/04/2020 23:58

This is interesting, my dp has a rash that was diagnosed as shingles (via a telephone appointment with gp). He hasn't had any other symptoms though.

Hormonecrazyhell · 28/04/2020 00:31

I’ve had my rash/itch for over 2 weeks, I was ill with something middle of March so who knows, I get eczema normally but never on my chest and back so don’t think it’s that, but then again 2 weeks is a long time for a viral rash. Ds still no symptoms at all. Just wish we could all get tested for antibodies.

StinkyWizzleteets · 28/04/2020 00:37

I had a chicken pox like rash twice with the same symptoms but of varying severity. I also had crippling cry out loud muscle and tendon pains which was far worse than the breathing symptoms and sore throat. I have no idea if I actually had
Covid or if it’s just another random returning virus.

StinkyWizzleteets · 28/04/2020 00:41

@SabrinaTheTeenageBitchthat looks like what I had. Some scabbed over like chicken pox. Some were itchy (that didn’t scab) and others were agony that did. No one else in my house had the spots or same symptoms tho which made me doubt it being covid.
