Tesco getting it a wrong?

I regularly use Asda and Sainsbury's as I'm an outreach worker so I'm driving around all day and use whichever supermarket I happen to pass when I need shopping. I've got used to queueing up at both Asda and Sainsburys and I don't mind as the stores are less crowded and I get round quickly. I ended up at a large Tesco yesterday purely because I was over the other side of town and it was mayhem, no queues so I thought it can't be very busy but inside the staff were furiously trying to shepherd masses of people round their one way system which wasn't working as there were simply too many people in there. I honestly think they are not prioritising people's well being by cramming so many people in at once. Anyone else have a similar experience or is it just this store.

The Tescos near me are all using queueing systems.

gingerbeerandlemonade · 25/04/2020 12:46

Our local one is fine.

redwoodmazza · 25/04/2020 12:46

Ours [in Dorset] is very organised and are restricting the numbers inside.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 25/04/2020 12:49

Our's is working well. They have an outside queing system, which works, and they limit the number allowed inside the store at any one time. There's a person in hi-viz marshalling.

Frownette · 25/04/2020 13:03

It's probably the size of the store OP - our local one is tesco express and well monitored, one in one out

PumpkinP · 25/04/2020 13:10

Ours is fine

reefedsail · 25/04/2020 13:14

The vast Tesco nearest me is the most militant in the area. To the point that I don't go there anymore because the atmosphere is horrible.

Kickanxietyinthebeanbag · 25/04/2020 13:17

Ours is very well managed ,as is Sainsbury’s,must just be where u are

BeansOnToast4T · 25/04/2020 13:21

That doesn't match my experience in Tesco - my local one is very well organised.

madnessitellyou · 25/04/2020 13:21

Ours is awful. The reason for that is that they keep changing things (for example, how and where you queue for the checkouts) but not actually telling anyone. Then they tell people off for doing it wrong. I was yelled at - I really was - for queuing in the wrong place for the checkout but I had no idea! I also saw a woman being shouted at by security because her other half was already in the store - evidently they’d already been in the queue to get in - but then waved in a couple who had a trolley each.

Hugsgalore · 25/04/2020 13:24

Mine is fine too. They even have staff at the ends of some isles to make sure that there are no more than 5 customers on the isle. They have one queue for the tills which actually seems to be working better than before and are still allowing customers use the scan and shop which is great.

Sunshine1239 · 25/04/2020 13:26

I hate ours

Only been once and found it so stressful

One way is fine but no one overtakes despite their being room and no one said passing someone for a second passes on corona

So everyone waits while you browse and you can’t go back if you forget something

Awful

Never again

Sunshine1239 · 25/04/2020 13:27

There’s no rule that it’s one per family

The rule is one trolley per person to keep spacing that’s all so they’re right in that sense

Flev · 25/04/2020 13:30

According to my husband (who's been doing our shopping) our tesco is hideous with far too many people in. Whereas sainsbury have it sorted.

alldaysleeper · 25/04/2020 13:44

Interesting to here the feedback, we are in Bournemouth so it's the store near the hospital, maybe it just felt really manic after the other stores. I would honestly have preferred to wait outside for a bit and have space inside rather than be herded around like cattle, especially round the fruit and veg.

Went to Tesco yesterday for the first time as I needed hair dye. Very stressful got told off twice by staff, left, went to Aldi - no one shouts at you there for back tracking 2 meters for some carrots. Smile

yearinyearout · 25/04/2020 13:54

Our Tesco is great. All very well organised, limited numbers in at one time, queuing and spacing system very civilised.

CKBJ · 25/04/2020 13:55

I’ve been shopping at Tesco and think it’s very organise and well managed. I normally shop at Sainsbury’s but found people were not following social distancing and lots of staff standing around chatting to each other.

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 25/04/2020 13:56

The staff in my local tesco are so negative and rude, even before this pandemic.
Honestly I'm thinking about travelling to the one a few miles away where their staff are lovely and can't do enough to help.

longearedbat · 25/04/2020 14:02

After being a Tesco customer for over 40 years I have stopped shopping there for all the reasons outlined above. Our local Tesco Extra has security guards who have become overbearing and rude, thinking it is okay to shout at people. I shall never ever shop there again, added to the fact customers were not allowed a big trolley, so I couldn't actually get a full weekly shop if I wanted to. I now go to Aldi and/or the Co-op, where staff are still pleasant and helpful despite everything, and I can have whetever size receptacle I chose.

RedskyAtnight · 25/04/2020 14:07

Our local Tesco is awful. The one way system is ill thought out as it involves lots of criss crossing and going to and fro rather than round the shop in a sensible way. There are too many bottlenecks. And the staff have forgotten that the reason for the one way system is to stop people coming into contact with each other and rigorously enforce it, even when it would make more sense to make some people go another way to avoid others!

ExclamationPerfume · 25/04/2020 14:28

Tesco here is fine. Asda on the other hand is a nightmare. They have queues all round the car park.

MrsJonesAndMe · 25/04/2020 14:32

Our Tesco has been OK. Waitrose less stress so I've mostly been going there instead. More expensive obviously, but worth it in my opinion.

winterisstillcoming · 25/04/2020 16:28

I went to Asda today and it was awful. They'd let far too many people in. I'd rather have waited outside than inside as I was stopping and letting other people get what they wanted before I approached the shelf. It caused me a lot of anxiety.

I do believe that people aren't following the rules as closely now and have got lockdown fatigue.
