Traveling late July

Do you think we will be able to travel to Spain in late July? I'm not talking about holidays, it would be to visit family.

No I doubt it. Sorry

AuntieMarys · 25/04/2020 11:12

No. Not a scooby

Frenchcroissant · 25/04/2020 12:35

Thanks for answering. Can I ask if this is your personal opinion or have you read it somewhere that airports will be closed?

TBH the quick answer is nobody knows for certain.. for example the airlines, airlines staff, airport staff etc certainly don't know how/if schedules are going to recover later in the year.

FWIW some major airports in Spain and elsewhere have remained open to some extent throughout the crisis...whether the flights you need will be running depends on which airports you are planning on using (at both ends of your journey)..

The biggest problem is going to be the entry restrictions that remain in place in July: nationals only? residents only? that sort of thing..I suspect that's going to be your biggest hurdle and I don't think there is any visibility on that at the moment.

Rosehip10 · 25/04/2020 12:52

No.

TheCanterburyWhales · 25/04/2020 14:10

Spain may well be open, but whether it will be open to Brits is another matter.
It's too early to say if airlines will be operating and if so, how.
The fact that most of them are only refunding/offering vouchers for flights up to May/June at the moment means they're hedging their bets.
The tourist industry in places like Spain and Italy is desperate for there to be some kind of season, so whilst it's improbable you'll go, it's not impossible.

DownWhichOfLate · 25/04/2020 14:15

I really doubt it but that’s my opinion not based on any actual information. Though wasn’t there something online telling us not to bother booking summer holidays... I’ll see if I can find it.

Iamclearlyamug · 25/04/2020 14:17

I bloody hope so - not Spain for me but Turkey. Fiance and I already been apart 2 months, July will be 5 months - I don't know how much longer than that I can cope without him 😔😔

Mysocalledlifexx · 25/04/2020 14:19

I dont think so, we will still have to social distance for a while even when lockdown is over they are saying even into next year.

Dogsandbabies · 25/04/2020 14:22

You may be able to. Greece has published its plan of phasing the lockdown down. But a lot of it is dependent on what happens as each measure is lifted. Spain is starting to plan too.

Very soon most countries will have to start limiting and reapplying restrictions in order to manage this. All will depend on how restrictions are at that point in time, limited or a bit more relaxed.

mindutopia · 25/04/2020 15:14

It's impossible to know at this point. My employer has asked us to not travel internationally through the 1st of August (advice from FCO is no travel indefinitely). There will likely be successive waves of infections spiking before things come under control (I work in infectious diseases, but not in patient care, so this is only want my clinician colleagues tell me they have been advised). That spike could be in July. Or it could be in September. Fortunately, I imagine flights will be fairly inexpensive since the airlines will be grateful for any business, so you should be able to book relatively last minute, particularly if you aren't flying to a holiday destination.

thedevilinablackdress · 25/04/2020 15:19

No way to know at moment

Frenchcroissant · 25/04/2020 20:59

Thanks all, the flights were bought in January, and I'm Spanish hence why I'm so worried. I only see my family once a year during the school summer holidays, so if I can't go in July I'll have to wait till Summer 2021....

Cinderella66 · 25/04/2020 21:04

If it's southern Spain flights are still going at the moment 4 times a week between UK and Gibraltar so no problem getting there. It's whether you will be able to cross into Spain. Providing the Spanish lockdown is relaxed, and you are Spanish in any case, you should be fine.

Frenchcroissant · 26/04/2020 12:04

It would be Gatwick to Valencia. My passport is Spanish but my DD's are British, so don't know... Oh well, no point in worrying so much, what will be will be I guess...

I dint think there will be flights for holidays until well after the summer, who knows though!

Queentea67 · 28/04/2020 23:48

As a Spanish National you never know.

Frenchcroissant · 28/04/2020 23:51

Fingers crossed, it did give me hope reading that

I don't think anyone can give you a guaranteed answer, not even the Spanish Government. Sanchez, the PM, has clearly said that this is tough journey without GPS, take two steps forward today and hopefully won't have to take back 1 or 3 back in two weeks time.

If your children, and this is a personal opinion, had Spanish passports I'm almost certain there'd be no problem. But with your children travelling under British passport.....it's all a guess at the moment.

browzingss · 29/04/2020 04:54

Personal opinion is no, doubtful there would be UK based travel permitted in July let alone travel out of the country. As Spain is relatively ahead of us in tackling the virus, chances are that they may not allow Brits in.

Travelban · 29/04/2020 06:29

No, I doubt it.

I am supposed to be visiting family in Italy in August and I doubt we will be able to go.. But That's only my opinion.
