Nurses dancing on TikTok has made people take lockdown less seriously

Seeing so many nurses in their uniform & PPE doing choreographed dance routines at work in hospital is not good if the country wants us to stay home under lockdown.

We are told: "Stay home - Protect the NHS"

Oh ok ....stay home while nurses do whole choreographed dance routines while at work in the NHS...

Since those videos appeared on social media, I have noticed a lot more neighbours chatting by the garages, people moving furniture in and out of their flats, less distancing and a less serious attitude towards Covid-19 and the lockdown.

What the fuck were those nurses thinking?

Have fun, enjoy a dance by all means. DO NOT POST IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

I have not seen the video but if I had it would not make me take lockdown less seriously.

I would just think it is a video, does not mean it influences people to not take lockdown seriously.

(Personally I hate tiktok, to me it is pointless, but those who do like it can use it and enjoy it).

Thanks for the clarification @Floatyboat but I had read the thread in it's entirety before adding my own rhetorical statement.

SauvignonBlanche · 25/04/2020 12:21

I’m surprised no one else has thought to start a thread about this Hmm

TheGreatWave · 25/04/2020 13:07

There was also no explicit law or guideline brought in saying nurses cannot do tik tok in work, which was very short sighted.

No, but there is professional standards. If those doing the videos are happy that they are acting within those guidelines, then that's their choice I guess.

FionaAnn84 · 25/04/2020 13:20

I think they're hilarious.

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 13:26

@TheGreatWave

I suppose some people like things more black and white. Would you say teachers doing them need to think about professionalism too?

MrsKypp · 25/04/2020 13:26

For those wondering / asking about my own situation (as OP of this).

Yes, I am staying home (classed as vulnerable) as should you be unless you are a key worker.

I have friends working on the front line.

I have a lot of respect of and gratitude towards nurses, who in my real life experience have almost always been wonderful. They do a hard job, are underpaid and the ones I have met were nearly all kind and compassionate people who were dedicated to helping people.

The TikTok videos do not do the vast majority of nurses justice.

They portray nurses dancing prepared, choreographed and practised dance routines IN UNIFORM, IN PPE, IN HOSPITALS during a horrific pandemic.

This means that the NHS is sending out mixed messages. This is irresponsible and unprofessional.

It upset me a lot because I find the situation in UK care homes a tragedy beyond words. I have lost count how many times I have cried for those dear people and the care home workers suffering unimginable horrors, made far, far worse by the fact that the NHS is not doing enough to help them.

Fuck off videos of dancing nurses. Dance and joke by all means, everyone needs to let off steam and exercise. But don't joke or dance around in uniform, in PPE or in hospital.

I don't know what teacher's professional standards are, and they are in a different situation.

It is something that I feel is skating very close to the edge on what is and is not acceptable.

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2020 13:48

Teachers often make funny videos of themselves singing or dancing for the kids even in non-pandemic times. We have an entirely different relationship with the people we serve.

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 25/04/2020 15:39

Nurses often joke and laugh with their patients too. Even those in the darkest of times. However, I do agree that this is skating on thin ice where social media use is concerned and raises questions.

SunShine682 · 25/04/2020 16:34

I agree OP.

In one hand we are being told to stay in and protect the NHS

And the next minute they all have time to throw a dance together.

Never mind cancer patients aren’t getting treatment at the moment!
