Nurses dancing on TikTok has made people take lockdown less seriously

Seeing so many nurses in their uniform & PPE doing choreographed dance routines at work in hospital is not good if the country wants us to stay home under lockdown.

We are told: "Stay home - Protect the NHS"

Oh ok ....stay home while nurses do whole choreographed dance routines while at work in the NHS...

Since those videos appeared on social media, I have noticed a lot more neighbours chatting by the garages, people moving furniture in and out of their flats, less distancing and a less serious attitude towards Covid-19 and the lockdown.

What the fuck were those nurses thinking?

Have fun, enjoy a dance by all means. DO NOT POST IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

And I highly doubt it's those videos that are making people take lockdown less seriously. I haven't even seen them myself. It's been 5 weeks with no end in sight, people are getting restless. It was bound to happen.

vera99 · 24/04/2020 22:43

The video above made me laugh and smile and no animals were hurt in the making of it. We all need a bit of levity in these dark times.

Hey teacher leave those nurses alone!

Flatwhite32 · 24/04/2020 22:44

I don't even have Tik Tok, never mind posted a video of myself. I'll end this here as I can't be bothered any more with people who make me feel crap about my job. It doesn't do me any good.

YappityYapYap · 24/04/2020 22:48

What is tiktok?

SquirtleSquad · 24/04/2020 22:50

@YappityYapYap the end of the world apparently

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/04/2020 22:53

@Flatwhite32 just ignore it. I bet a lot of the people on here moaning are safely WFH, not having to go out to work themselves on the front line. Maybe they ought to make a video themselves and lighten the fuck up a bit.

YappityYapYap · 24/04/2020 22:54

I just googled and it said 'learn from your couch with tiktok live stream' so it's like a learning platform? I don't see the issue with nurses using that, what is the issue?

lamplamplamo · 24/04/2020 22:57

Teachers dancing is a bit pathetic, but if it entertains the kids, then fine.

What I don't get is why they would post it on social media. Shouldn't they keep it for the private school network. If they do keep it private, then fine, don't you think?

It's genuinely the toilet roll challenge on the schools social media. Had a good response from kids.

Voice0fReason · 24/04/2020 23:31

I love them.
Makes me feel even more empathetic towards them.
I don't believe they are having any negative effect on people's behaviour.

Flatwhite32 · 25/04/2020 09:43

@Waxonwaxoff0 your reply has really made me smile! Thank you! Smile

tinytemper66 · 25/04/2020 09:58

This weekend in our OWN time many teachers in my school are doing a routine for the kids to see and to cheer them up. All separate in our own homes.
Uou have no idea what part of the shift they are doing this. It could be before or after handover.
Lighten up love.

SpokeTooSoon · 25/04/2020 10:00

The dancing nurses are completely tone deaf. I think the adulation has gone to their heads.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/04/2020 10:06

I love how it's nurses getting slated for this--not other HCPs.
Anyway, if HCPs want to do a tik tok dance and have the time do it, who cares?! It can be good for morale.
And it really doesn't change things-some hospitals and care environments don't have enough PPE, some people are severely ill and people are dying and as we know some hospitals/departments/wards have more time on their hands than others.
I do feel that quiet areas should be doing their regular work now (I am aware of the risk of covid exposure) but this is determined by senior management, not the nurse doing the Tik Tok dance.
I also don't agree with the use of PPE for it though aside from a mask, which should be worn anyway.
Just my two cents.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 25/04/2020 10:16

I agree with the OP.

I am a midwife, with many friends and family members in nursing and midwifery working on the frontline right now. I have seen colleagues of mine in tiktok videos and whilst I absolutely understand why, on a personal level, they would do this, I do think it sets the wrong tone.

It gives the impression that HCPs aren't busy, aren't working hard, aren't under stress. None of this is true. No one is saying that nurses etc can't enjoy themselves - I bloody well want my friends and colleagues to wring every last drop of joy out of life right now - but posting choreographed dances in PPE on social media feels odd in the current situation.

I think it's entirely possible that an unintended consequence of this could be that people subconsciously start to take lockdown warnings less seriously.

BilboBercow · 25/04/2020 10:18

No op people are taking lockdown less seriously because after 5 weeks they have lockdown fatigue. Something the government were advised would happen

TheGreatWave · 25/04/2020 10:30

I don't particularly like them either, who are they benefitting? The staff doing them fair enough, but then they are just sharing for the likes.

Other staff (ICU?) are frustrated as they are exhausted and certainly don't have time or energy to make dance videos. People sat at home having had operations cancelled because supposedly the NHS is completely overwhelmed, worrying if the delay will shorten their life expectancy.

I am very surprised that none of the professional bodies have put out statements to their members though.

Justjn1 · 25/04/2020 10:32

@Waxonwaxoff0 I have to agree, I bet a lot of people on here who are moaning are safely WFH.

I'm not saying I either agree or disagree with Nurses (or teachers - although I'm not sure why they've been dragged in for another bashing @Flatwhite32) posting videos. I can see both sides of the argument and personally wouldn't ever be comfortable posting videos onto media platforms such as TikTok. But it would be interesting to know what exactly OP does, where she feels the need and superiority to criticise those (some of whom who are working in difficult, stressful and tiring conditions currently) so pedantically. Like others have said before hand, if you don't like them - don't watch them.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 25/04/2020 10:45

I’m no fan of this government and agree they’ve made numerous errors but I’m baffled by people not seeing the reasons for the decision to not discuss next steps.

If the gov stood on their briefing podiums and told us that they anticipated that we would begin a phased return to normal life in 4 weeks (for example), there would be a large number of people who would think “Oh well, if it’s fine in a month, it’s fine now”. It would fire the starting pistol. They are keeping the message as simple as possible, to enable as many people as possible to understand it and follow it and people are still having difficulty.

Plus, they don’t really know yet, do they? I’m sure an exit plan (Ora number of them, based on various outcomes) is being formulated but we’re assuming that they can accurately predict what will happen in 4 weeks time. Seems unlikely when they can’t get themselves together on the testing and PPE issues. Hospital deaths may be declining or plateauing but community deaths aren’t and that needs to be considered before we move forward (presumably?).

The Tories will be gagging to get people back to work. Capitalism is king and having people furloughed, businesses closed down and the economy ground to halt is pretty much their worst nightmare and so the idea that this lockdown is being extended for shits and giggles is frankly laughable.

YinMnBlue · 25/04/2020 10:48

If anyone changes their behaviour due to a minuscule proportion of hcp a appearing in social media then they have only themselves to blame.

And I wouldn’t even have known about these dratted videos without the exposure on MN.

Actionhasmagic · 25/04/2020 11:01

I bet you’re fun at parties

Actionhasmagic · 25/04/2020 11:02

Don’t blame nurses. Blame this incompetent government

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2020 11:04
Daffodil

Piss off with the public sector bashing.

Letsdrinkgin · 25/04/2020 11:10

Don’t blame nurses. Blame this incompetent government

Why is it the government's fault that nurses are dancing? I'm very confused

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 11:27

@letsdrinkgin

Because they allowed non urgent care to be stopped, therefore nurses have time on their hands. There was also no explicit law or guideline brought in saying nurses cannot do tik tok in work, which was very short sighted.

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 11:33

@Justjn1
teachers - although I'm not sure why they've been dragged in for another bashing

There was some (possibly hypothetical) discussion about teacher's doing the videos. A critical opinion of such teachers was voiced. @Flatwhite32 said this made her feel crap about her job, though clarified she has not made a tik tok video.
