P45 issued?!

Hi all,

Wondered whether any of you had any advice?

My DH works through an agency as a builder. And has been PAYE with them since January, but paid through a separate company. During mid March as a family were told to self isolate through symptoms. He was told through agency and site managers his job would be secure after isolation period.

However on end of isolation period, all contact trying get through to agency and site where ignored and calls not returned. Assuming they had closed. On speaking to payroll who pay wages said it was likely that he would be placed on furloughed, and they were awaiting confirmation for government retention scheme.

It has now been 4 weeks without income, apart from a very small amount from Universal Credit with paid in arrears, which we receive when switched over from Tax Credits.

I've logged onto DH payroll account and he's been issued a P45. Any ideas what this could mean? Does this mean he's no longer entitled to anything?

He is willing to work and would of weeks ago if they hadn't told him his job was secured and would be able to return. But with their lack of communication we're now in uncertainty. Even if he did return to a different site it would be 2 weeks/month until we had another income Sad

Such worrying times.

Thank you in advance for any advice x

P45 means his employment is terminated

I know this means his contract terminated but under current circumstances I thought this would mean he would be furloughed? If no available hours with how long he's been employed. The main agency staff are currently furloughed themselves.

Hi OP is it through an umbrella company?

wheresmymojo · 25/04/2020 00:10

It doesn't sound great OP to be honest.

I run a limited company and you don't issue P45's to furlough someone.

Yes the payroll is through a type of umbrella company. PayLinks. They've just told us sit tight and wait for government retention pay and now received P45.

It looks like we're not going to get anything at all doesn't it. Even though he was willing to work after isolation period.

4 weeks ongoing without pay and children is quite daunting.

Thank you for your replies x
