Where are people catching it from

We are 5 weeks into lockdown more for many people. Is there any data on possible infection locations. If people are only going a couple of places per week and get infected. Where have they been? Supermarket? Is it essential workers now who are becoming ill? Deliveries? Does anyone know?

Some people are still going to work because they are unable to work from home; these aren’t necessarily key workers either. Then you also have people going out for exercise and not maintaining social distancing, or not following the instructions at all and actively socialising.

Lots of people are catching it in residential care homes. Very difficult to maintain social distancing in those settings with asymptomatic patients or people with dementia who don't understand what's being asked of them.

we’ve been self isolating since 18 March and before that lots of social distancing. Now though we are have multiple visits from HCP and it worries me that they are more prone as they come into contact with more sick people.

I keep the front doors propped open and get them to wash their hand by offering liquid soap and kitchen roll. They all wear visors & masks to protect us. All we can do is be vigilant on cleaning surfaces and hands.

Round here you could catch it at the busy beach, packed parks or any number of social gatherings people are having

There has been suggestions that it has a longer incubation period than first thought. Although not 5 weeks, it could be that you get infected, say 2 weeks pass before first symptoms, 10-14 days to become critical, maybe a week of treatment before you sadly die?

Plus all those people having to queue in supermarkets early on before they sorted it out can't have been good. Each person who caught it then would have infected about 3 others.

I'll be fascinated when there's more data on this and or course it will be hugely important in reducing infection.

Where are you getting that from, the R0 has never been as high as 3 has it? Even in China it was less than that iirc.

It will be interesting to see but I would stake large sums of money on you being correct.

My mum caught it this week from the residential care home she works in. She lives with my stepdad who works in a different care home so there has been a lot of scope there for infection.

They're catching it from each other. And once one person in a household gets it, the others often catch it too, but this can take a few weeks.

I really want to see the data on this too. I hope we are told the truth at some point. I have heard that a lot of new infections are being transmitted from health care workers. So they are bringing it home to their families as well as spreading it at work. A doctor friend told me most people working for the NHS will have it by now.

When people are presenting (to the medical services) with symptoms severe enough to be tested, and are confirmed positive, is information about where they've been and who they've been in contact with recorded? Sorry if it's a daft question but i honestly don't know.

Like the OP i wonder is anyone building a sort of map of where and how the virus is getting about (apart from the obvious, when it sweeps through groups of the vulnerable, ie a care home.)

Did you see the photos of crowded Westminster Brudge of people cheering the NHS? Yes totally not getting that they are 'supporting' the NHS by doing the very thing the NHS are asking people NOT to do. And loads of people think it's ok to visit relatives, letting kids run around together etc.
Plus there are thousands of people going out to work. It is spread in hospitals. Some people live in high density housing where it's almost impossible not to touch something someone else just has.

We both work for NHS. Husband consultant in ITU. Neither of us has contracted it.

I’d rather people didn’t treat us as though we are somehow risky. I’ve managed to work from home, mainly. DH has full PPE and robust processes.

Many will sadly be key workers who catch it at work and then people in their households.

We are clapping for the NHS. We are both nhs and we think carers in homes have it much worse.

Of my 4 family members who work in hospitals, only 1 has had it or if the others have, they haven't had any symptoms.

I think it's very interesting that when I chat to the cashiers in my local Sainsburys they tell me none of them have gone down with it since Lockdown. They do think a number of them had it in January though when a terrible bug went through them and the coughing lasted for weeks.

Most people I think would catch it now in supermarkets and stores.

But in the last couple of weeks people seem to be ignoring restrictions on visiting other households or other non essential activities and there us definitely more traffic on the roads, so that way as well. So maybe there will be a spike in cases in a few weeks time

My daughter is a key worker (nurse) she still has to travel to her place of work, she lives in a city and travels by bus. She does all the shopping, If she does catch Covid19 I know she will pass it on. I guess people are still passing it on.
