No x-ray referrals

Gp said no x-ray referrals are allowed at the moment but I could go to walk in centre and be triaged for an x-ray. I would have to get a taxi, then sitting and waiting in hospital am i putting myself at risk? Or just hope that referrals will be able to be done sooner rather than later.

The simple answer is yes you will be putting yourself at risk. But you need to balance that with the risk of not having the Xray and something being missed.

We're still taking some X-ray referrals. We're not accepting everything. For example, if the request is for an X-ray of the hips looking for degenerative change we wouldn't do it as the orthopaedic surgeons can't do joint replacements. It's better to wait and do the X-ray once normal service has resumed. The surgeons would want more up to date images before doing anything.
However, if the request is about looking for a possible cancer, we will do it.
It all depends what the request is for.
Sorry if it's a bit confusing. It's a confusing time!

Yep, same in my trust. GPs are no longer sending for / radiology are not accepting non urgent XR referrals. In urgent care we will only send for clinically urgent Xrays so no point attending for a "routine" XR
