Watching today's update and the cars usage graph shows that people are starting to drive for non-essential journeys again.

WHY?

Why can't people just stay at home?! Stop driving around! I see people shopping twice a week or more, regularly. WHY?!

OP posts:
BrazenHusky74 · 24/04/2020 18:53

The graph mentions nothing about non-essential journeys, just transport use, so not sure how OP made that leap.
This week I have made several car journeys for work whereas last week I made none. I don't know yet how many I will need to make next week. Like everyone else I am trying my best. I'm planning my journeys so that I cover as many things as possible in one trip. Not sure if this is the right way to do things because if I pick something up at point A I might then spread it to points B and C, but I'd be travelling more if I made 3 separate trips.

cantory · 24/04/2020 18:57

Number of cars on the road are increasing OP. I have noticed this.

Alex50 · 24/04/2020 18:57

Who are you to tell people what to do? There is no law that stops me going out of my house, there are guidelines but no law, can you imagine going to prison for leaving your house more than twice in one day!

justasking111 · 24/04/2020 18:57

Where I live the bus/train service has been decimated, that might account for more cars on the road as well.

CathyandHeathcliff · 24/04/2020 18:58

Didn’t they recently say it was ok to drive for exercise? They’ll make their minds up soon!

No it doesn't Hmm

What do MN posters get out of inventing their own stricter lockdown rules and then being angry at anyone who breaks them?

Bertucci · 24/04/2020 18:59

I have just been to M&S. There was a marked difference today from a week ago.

The queue was only 5 deep, like last week. But I was the only one in the queue not in a couple. Waiting to go in, I saw a couple come out with their shopping, which was 1 bottle of wine.

I don't really care - but I thought it was interesting.

RabidChinchilla · 24/04/2020 18:59

I’ve been out twice this week. I forgot my trolley token and didn’t have a pound coin. 🤷‍♀️

Underhisi · 24/04/2020 18:59

We only started driving ds around last weekend. We couldn't let him go on with that level of anxiety and distress and no release. In our case the reason was there all along but there came a point when we had to act on it. There will be others in the same position.

midsomermurderess · 24/04/2020 19:00

I cycled down to Portobello in Edinburgh this afternoon. Lots and lots of others on their bikes too, other people walking, some people swimming too (!), A cafe was open selling coffees etc and ice cream through the window, people sitting on the sea walls eating and drinking them. People sitting on the sand with their children. We cycled past 3 police officers who smiled at us and said hello, lovely day. We also skirted a big park, Leith Links, on the way out and back and people were out on blankets, kicking balls around, some tending their adjacent allotments. But all, as far as I could, see mindful of social distancing. Nothing appeared to be reckless or dangerous behaviour, just people adjusting to a new normal.

LindainLockdown · 24/04/2020 19:01

Because people have had enough of being treated like kids and now they've had enough and I don't blame them. Government won't make any clear plans so people are going to increasingly do their own thing. Good for them, it might get a message through the thick skulls in the cabinet.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/04/2020 19:03

Yep, I was in a queue at every traffic light today. First time in 4 weeks it took me almost the same to get home as before Lockdown. (I only go out to and from work daily, no choice to WFH).

Willow2017 · 24/04/2020 19:04

I don't understand this attitude of "because you might have forgotten something in your shop you can go out again to get it".
This week we forgot onions in the shop. Our bad - we'll have to adapt recipes and cook without onions for another week or so. Why put ourselves at risk making another trip to the shop for something so trivial?

Because ou may be on a restricted diet and cant just make do with something else?
It may be a lot more important than a few onions?
Its not difficult to put yourself in others shoes.

emmcan · 24/04/2020 19:04

@LindainLockdown

Exactly.

PuppyMonkey · 24/04/2020 19:04

OP hasn’t posted for a while, I wonder has s/he nipped out? Wink

VeryQuaintIrene · 24/04/2020 19:06

People are not just going to work, they're going shopping and even visiting people.

How would you know unless you are following everyone to their destinations?

GreyGardens88 · 24/04/2020 19:07

I went out for a walk today for the first time since last Sunday, way more traffic today and people out on the streets. It's just like a normal Friday evening out there on the streets

pennylane83 · 24/04/2020 19:07

Workplaces are starting to open up again (and so they should) so more people are off out to work. Lots of places are now offering click and collect so people are out collecting their orders.

Nanalisa60 · 24/04/2020 19:08

Ok I’m not getting my food delivered as I think the old and people who need to shield need the delivery slots more then me.

I’m aloud to go out to shop once a day, I’m aloud to exercise !!

Today on the BBC new at 4.30 some vile woman was at the end of her drive counting how many bikes cycled by her house all day!! Saying there were putting her life a risk!! Well if she was in her back garden then she would be bloody safe!!

The Police are asking for people not to ring them to basically rat on what there neighbours are up to.

firstimemamma · 24/04/2020 19:09

Need to vent - I miss all my friends dearly and our children are all missing playing together. Meanwhile my next door neighbour is happily letting her teenage daughter hang out in their front garden with a big group of her mates. It's not fair. Why isn't she parenting responsibly and sending them back to their homes?

deydododatdodontdeydo · 24/04/2020 19:10

Can't get home delivery, not essential worker or elderly.
Rather stupidly and selfishly want to eat, so have to go shop.
Usually the shop doesn't have everything we need so have to go again another day.
Sod off with your judgement.

MintyMabel · 24/04/2020 19:11

I don't think the OP is referring to those of you who need to go out more frequently. She's thinking about the people who could well remain home but go out either because they don't care about the rules or because they're bored

The OP doesn’t believe people exist in the first category. They’re just all wrong for not doing lockdown as excellently as she is.

Nanalisa60 · 24/04/2020 19:13

PuppyMonkey

OP is probably at the end of her drive with a note book counting how many people were jogging or cycling by!!

Then she will inform the police who will ignore her!!

maria860 · 24/04/2020 19:14

I don't get these posts because there's no where to go out the parks are closed by me the shops are closed apart from supermarkets.
How do you know people are visiting etc I just don't get it I've stayed in for six weeks I've popped the corner shop but these posts pee me off because why do people think people aren't staying in there's no where for us to go!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 24/04/2020 19:15

Why not?
