When will we next have a drink in a pub?!

Lighthearted obviously compared to many other problems, but I’m so missing the pub and meeting with friends there. A glass of wine at home and a zoom call doesn’t even come close.

With the news today seeming to suggest pubs and restaurants would be the last thing to re-open, when do people think we might next step inside one? And do we think certain establishments might re open first if they limit numbers and / or have outdoor space?

I don’t know but I think I might go a bit mad if I can’t sit in a beer garden at all over the summer. I don’t want to sit near anyone, just have a pint and pretend everything has blown over.

Sirzy · 23/04/2020 17:27

I’m not expecting it until August at the earliest.

Rosehip10 · 23/04/2020 17:30

A long time. Hard to ensure social distancing in pubs and any such measures would make it not worth it for pubs to open as their bills/staff costs would be more than they take. Unless prices are hugely pushed up and people are prepared to pay them.

BuddleiaTime · 23/04/2020 17:33

Someone on the news said pubs, coffee shops, restaurants and theatres will be the last to open because social distancing will be the norm well into 2021.

Youngatheart00 · 23/04/2020 17:36

It’s just struck me that we are set to spend all of the summer basically in isolation. I work in central London so I can’t see me being in the office whilst social distancing is still advised, less about the office and more about the commute.

Having one of those reality check days I think. I was ok with it when it was weeks, maybe even a couple of months. But for longer.....this is tough. I’m not even an especially sociable creature!!

I could imagine when they do reopen, they'll have a strict limit on how many people can go in and still keeping to the social distancing guidelines. Maybe with a time limit for each party. Tables will probably be further apart and people will be told to stand back from the bar etc.

I can't see it happening for at least a couple of months though. Hopefully we'll have an Indian summer thouh and we can all sit in our favourite beer garden with something cold Smile 👍

One of my locals has already gone up for lease.

If this goes on too long, I fear for the pub and restaurant trade.

I know a few people in the brewing/pub industry and they are planning for an August opening. Seems very ambitious to me.

whatisforteamum · 23/04/2020 19:00

I'm watching with interest as I work in hospitality.TBH I had thought late June\july after Chris Wittys comments Wednesday I am not convinced it will be this year.

According to some people, never again. From now on you have to lock yourself up and never leave the house again...unless you’re a teacher and in that case I need you to look after my kids in huge groups, within tiny classrooms and that’ll be fine.
