Getting a van during lockdown

Ricketyswimmer · 22/04/2020 23:16

DH is a key worker who uses a van for work. He had a no fault accident a while ago which means the van is technically a write off, but still legal to drive - it's just a big dent in the back- no structural concerns. The insurance is now due for renewal and the insurance company won't cover it unless it's repaired. Economically it makes most sense to get rid of the van and get another, but not sure how we can do that with everything shut. He has a month until he's no longer insured. Any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated.

You can still purchase vehicles from garages that are still trading .
I did a few weeks ago no problems

A relative purchased a car from a private seller and another relative (who works with him on a daily basis anyway) drove him to get it.

Ask the insurance company if they can extend the insurance for an additional month/period of time due to the fact you cannot get it repaired because of CV - ask a dealer and I bet they cannot get a new panel/back door in that time frame, if that's the case get them to email you to say that and forward it to the insurers. I take it it has been declared structurally sound?

Thanks folks. Yes, structurally sound. Not found where is still trading near here - will keep looking.
