I received an email from the RAH today for an event that was due to go ahead on 21st May which, due to CV, has now been postponed to just a week later on 28th May.

Their website however states that they don't anticipate opening until 'at least 31st May'. Email and their latest online statement dated today so something slightly amiss.

However, even if the concert does go ahead on 28th May, I can't quite understand how as it would normally be a packed venue and I am pretty sure that, although we may be out of lockdown, social distancing protocols will still be in operation.

Are they being a little too optimistic?

Yes they are. Royal Opera House has cancelled every production to the end of the season now. They’re not expecting to be back open until September at the earliest, and very possibly longer.
