I have seen more cars and people today than any other day. Even neighbour two doors down has a group of workmen in the garden. I fear once official lockdown is lifted it'll be 'Yay, back to normal' attutide for many.

Not in my area of England either TheMagiciansMewTwo

AmelieTaylor · 22/04/2020 22:48

If people don't stick to it now we will end up being the country with the first second peak, possibly worse tgan the first. A tougher lock down that'll make a n economic recovery much more difficult. Why are people so thick?

PerpetualCircle · 22/04/2020 22:49

Observed the following today:

Roads busier than they have been recently.

More people sitting down and relaxing in the sun rather than exercising at our local recreation field.

My neighbour downstairs inviting a group of mates into our communal garden.

I reckon the good weather and lock down fatigue is making people lax.

ToffeeYoghurt · 23/04/2020 00:17

Amelie So many people, many MPs included (especially the 1922 committee) appear to have no foresight whatsoever. I was just saying on another thread that we're the embarrassment and shame of the world. We have about 41,000 deaths already. That's double the number of France, who went into (a stricter) lockdown sooner and are not planning to lift theirs yet.

WyfOfBathe · 23/04/2020 00:34

I've noticed more people out and about the last couple of days, but not more people breaking the rules. There were noticeably more people exercising in the park today compared to last time I went, but very few people just sunbathing or in groups.

Unusualbloodgroup · 23/04/2020 00:37

And some people don’t think that the behavioural scientists are important still.

RabidChinchilla · 23/04/2020 00:37

Saw one fuckwit racing side by side with the one in front. Hmm

Not to be a dick, but this isn't possible. You're either alongside them or behind them.

ToffeeYoghurt · 23/04/2020 00:57

I've said on another thread. I think the ones out and about as if there's no pandemic want us to win the world Covid death rate league. We're already very close.

Flaxmeadow · 23/04/2020 01:14

Turn left at the end of my street and everyone is following the rules, crossing the roads to avoid people, standing outside co-op and Tesco Express before you can enter.

Turn right towards the estate with the local shop and post office and you are transported to pre-Coronavirus with no social distancing, people stood in groups outside chatting outside having a fag, no concept of social distancing inside.

Similar thing happening here. Two council estates close to each other. One estate has followed the rules from the start and has a real sense of community spirit about it. The other estate, the total opposite and has been ignoring the rules from the start.

Both estates the same demographic and socio economic status, both very similar, but It's interesting how they behave so differently. Maybe some kind of tribalism, where they copy each others behaviour. A behaviour scientist would have a field day

BatShite · 23/04/2020 13:16

In my area (small village in durham) for the first few weeks everyone seemed to be following the 'rules'. Except a couple of the older residents who were still having daily family/friends visists and pottering about. Then, when it was announced it was going to be longer, people started living normal lives again. Or it seems that way. Roads were dead, now they are 'normal' as if nothings happening. People are out and about, neighbours talking in the street again instead of avoiding each other. I think for many..its simply gone on too long now and they would rather take the risk. Or thats their way of thinking (not saying thats right). I live in an area mainly poulated by older people..surrounded by bungalows etc. so this might not be the same anywhere else near here..I have kind of found that personally, its always seemed its the older people ignoring the lockdwn more than anyone else. Its been a bit confusing hearing on the news over and over that the young are ignoring it, while my eyes tell me that (here anyway) the young are listening and the elderly are ignoring it!

BirdieFriendReturns · 23/04/2020 13:20

People have had enough. I say that as somebody who hasn’t left my house or garden in two weeks.

MarshaBradyo · 23/04/2020 13:23

One thing they did get, when the other countries were going in to lock down earlier and many were saying here should too, is that people wouldn’t last for ages.

TimeForChange123 · 23/04/2020 13:28

B and Q have reopened and judging by the queues for it in my city, a lot of people are on the roads because of that

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2020 13:56

The mail has more pictures today of ' Britain back to work'

FliesandPies · 23/04/2020 14:33

This is lockdown by consent -once people start to withdraw consent the current type of lockdown will become impossible.

CathyorClaire · 24/04/2020 10:33

Not to be a dick, but this isn't possible. You're either alongside them or behind them.

One in front ahead by a couple of feet. Both racing side by side.

Not sure why it matters Confused

Onone · 24/04/2020 10:39

My dh has the phone call this morning saying he’s back at work on Monday,he’s a water engineer

Alsohuman · 24/04/2020 10:46

I’m surprised he ever stopped working in the first place @Onone, that’s key worker territory, surely?

pontypridd · 24/04/2020 11:25

I wonder whether government is lifting the lockdown by stealth.

They don't want to get blamed for doing it too early. They seem to be turning a blind eye to everything opening up again and people breaking lockdown rules.

Builders are back in full force round here. Roads are busy. People are meeting up with friends - in houses and parks.

If this continues and grows, lock down will have been a waste of time and money.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we're just free-styling this until we get our PM back - which could be weeks/months?

CathyorClaire · 24/04/2020 11:35

I wonder whether government is lifting the lockdown by stealth.

I think there could well be somnething in that given the original strategy was (and still is) herd immunity.

When infection rates pick up again they can shift the spotlight to disobedient Joe Public and harrumph about how he wouldn't wait for their top secret exit strategy to be revealed.

I think Boris is already pulling the levers but won't be officially back until Monday.

pontypridd · 24/04/2020 11:39

You reckon he'll be back on Monday?

What makes you think that?

Lovemusic33 · 24/04/2020 11:41

pontypridd I agree, the roads here are just as busy today as they were before lockdown (I live next to a main road), I saw builders working yesterday, B&Q has re opened, other places seem to opening, there less police about, it seems we are gradually coming out of lockdown without the go ahead of the government but they are pretending not to notice.

Laniakea · 24/04/2020 11:42

The papers are reporting it

Bagelsandbrie · 24/04/2020 12:01

I think it’s by stealth as well, the whole herd immunity thing as above. We are in South Norfolk and initially the police came down really hard on people, everyone hardly went out, etc etc. Now it’s almost as busy as it was pre lockdown. Morrison’s is like a free for all. Builders are advertising for new work (yes I know they’re allowed to work but just another sign things are picking up again). Cars are out and about. Families chatting to each other in the streets. Police nowhere to be seen now! I think we are heading for another spike in deaths and cases and the government will just blame everyone.

CathyorClaire · 24/04/2020 12:15

*You reckon he'll be back on Monday?

What makes you think that?*

The phone call with Trump. The noises from Downing Street about him being back 'soon'.

News reports are saying the same thing now.
