Is lockdown over? SMH!

I have seen more cars and people today than any other day. Even neighbour two doors down has a group of workmen in the garden. I fear once official lockdown is lifted it'll be 'Yay, back to normal' attutide for many.

I get that people are still working. But next door aren't. They have been having a drunken BBQ all day. I'm usually the first to roll my eyes at a 'my neighbour let a workman in their house!' thread, but something has obviously changed in my area during the last few days. Whereas the vast majority were following the rules before, people are being complacent now. I had multiple people come too close in Lidl the other day too. And one guy literally barged me out of his way then tutted that I'd not moved (I couldn't as there were people too close on either end of the aisle).

Well we are certainly being treated like 12 year olds, or even 6 year olds.

@VenusTiger you're right, no country fully understands it, but what is our strategy? Lockdown without any real testing, any indication about how people are going to begin to get back to work to keep the economy afloat, and the advice changes all of time and is out of sync with most of the rest of the planet. Why can't we be annoyed with that?

Lots of people can work, though.

Unless you're in one of specified industries that have been asked to close, or you work in a job where social distancing/hygiene etc. is impossible, then you can continue working as usual.

DH is still working as he can safely work alone. My job involves going in and out of people's homes (dog walker/sitter) and as I cannot safely follow the guidance set out by DEFRA, I have closed and will remain closed until it's safe for me re-open.

We have never had a strict lockdown imposed on us, people have just interpreted it as such. The new guidelines make things much clearer so I think people are more relaxed.

The 'you can go to work if you can't work from home' rule means most businesses, even though not essential are still going. Not many are truly essential. Therefore- loads of people still travelling on public transport, loads of people still working, loads of new infections. The infection rate has levelled off, but it's not going to drop much now until all those working have had it- which could take ages. Social distancing at work will only be effective to a certain point- people might remain 2m apart, but they are going to move around and be walking through air that someone else just breathed out! It will still spread.

And yes, many businesses closed when they need not have, now it's evident this is going on for longer than many thought, they probably cannot justify remaining closed.

This.

In terms of social distancing, still all good here

What annoys me is those of us sticking to the rules might end up still getting it and the ones doing what they like will probably avoid it!

Seems the same as normal round here, haven’t noticed any additional cars or people out and about. We went for a walk earlier and could hear loads of people playing in gardens but no more people than normal walking dogs etc.

Turn left at the end of my street and everyone is following the rules, crossing the roads to avoid people, standing outside co-op and Tesco Express before you can enter.

Turn right towards the estate with the local shop and post office and you are transported to pre-Coronavirus with no social distancing, people stood in groups outside chatting outside having a fag, no concept of social distancing inside.

Insane. And sadly IMO, due to lack of education.

Firstly I've noticed no real change. But if there was, is anyone even remotely surprised? When a government treats its overwhelmingly compliant, responsible citizens like children, refuses to trust them with the smallest degree of detail, and gives no indication of when they’ll start to see even the first stages toward easing the major constraints on their lives, then of course this is going to happen! D'uh. What the hell did they expect? The relentless, inexhaustible anger of the Neighbourhood Prefect Squad would be better expended against the woeful mismanagement and ineptitude of our esteemed leaders in Westminster, rather than wasting their negative energy – and achieving doodly squat - on locals who put a toe out of doors or sit on park benches. Monsters that they are.

I do have to wonder if BoJo is holding back on his big announcement so he can bask in the reflected glory of his hero Winston Churchill and make some big fanfare about the end of ‘lockdown’ on VE Day. If this – as some suspect – is what he’s really planning then I hope it’s greeted with the ferocity of backlash it would thoroughly deserve. But surely even Boris Johnson couldn’t be this tone deaf or stupid? Surely not ….

People's anger is misdirected, IMO.

Ooh a nice bit of class snobbery thrown into the mix there. Well let's hope your superior level of education can protect you from a virus that can target anyone, including Boris Johnson and his cronies with their Oxbridge degrees.

Construction isn’t closed down in England. Having workmen in the garden is well within the guidance.

Unless we’re in the shielded, vulnerable group, we’re all supposed to get it.

May not be relevant, however our nearest B&Q opened fully yesterday and was very busy today as I passed to go food shopping.

It will be for many but nearly everyone will get it, just trying for not all at once.

(Unless the September vaccine date turns out to be good)

Miggins I'm thinking about the second wave when hospitals and healthcare are completely overwhelmed. Those chomping at the bit to continue as normal as if we're not in the middle of a pandemic, could perhaps sign a form, accepting they'll be back of the queue for medical treatment.

Lots of posters on this thread live in places with a low number of cases. For now. They've become complacent but I'm not sure what they think will happen when everyone starts travelling around again. They don't seem to understand the only reason they're not as bad as some places is because of lockdown.

This gleeful interpretation, reinterpretation, looser reinterpretation and attempted implementation of guidelines reminds me of that old skit: 'The Rules'

If a Woman suspects that a man knows all The Rules, she must immediately change some of The Rules
The Rules are subject to change at any time and without prior notice ...

If the government is sticking to their original herd immunity plan (despite evidence now suggesting there may not be any immunity) that means many of the most vulnerable are going to die. Several conditions with the highest death rates are not in the shielding group. Very common conditions too. So possibly very many deaths. No wonder we're already set to have one of the highest death rates in the world.

Anyone who is pretending we’re back to normal are going to cause a second peak. I understand complacency but the adults in this country need to grow up and follow the advice. We’re not over this yet, far from it. I’m continuing to behave as I did in week one but I know there are inbreds out there who believe they’re exempt from dying/causing deaths/believe in the Daily Trash papers. I make no apologies for following the science driven advice. My kids aren’t on an extended holiday, DH’s working from home is not allowing him to swing the lead. My two kids with learning disabilities understand what’s going on and have bought into social distancing and they can’t visit their beloved fishing locations. They miss their friends and aunties and going to their sports clubs but they’ve more brains/morals to the “mainstream” population (or whatever non learning disabled is called these days).

Did I just describe you and your complacency? Bite me.

My husband is a tradesman, he is allowed to go to work on people's homes still (and he is) because he can't do his work from home.

Surprisingly a lot of people still getting him out as well.

The daily mails ' Britain is going back to work' afternoon headline has been dropped.
I'm not surprised, but anyone who did see it it won't help with the whole ' lockdown is a bad idea' narrative.
