Is lockdown over? SMH!

I have seen more cars and people today than any other day. Even neighbour two doors down has a group of workmen in the garden. I fear once official lockdown is lifted it'll be 'Yay, back to normal' attutide for many.

My neighbours currently having a roaring party

OhMargo · 22/04/2020 20:26

Unfortunately the UK has and always did have a total (post Colonial) superiority complex.

Always think they are better than anyone else, be it Brexit or Corona.

Let us see.

SciFiWoman · 22/04/2020 20:30

Definitely more people around and more traffic on the roads than at the start of this lockdown.
I think people who were staying in and following the rules are sick of certain others (yes, neighbours, I’m looking at you..). who have been having friends round for stinky bbqs. Groups of people are playing football on the playing fields or sitting round in big numbers and those of us who were careful and stayed home until food started to run out, are fed-up with the unfairness of it.
I am beginning to think ‘what’s the point’ with following the advice, as I can see for myself that it’s slowly and surely unravelling.
What happens next?
Tighter restrictions, heavily policed - or will the government just look the other way and let nature sort out the strong and the weak?

Chillipeanuts · 22/04/2020 20:40

My husband hasn’t left the house/garden for 5 weeks. Said just this morning that he really would need to go for a short drive before the car battery died, in case we need it for emergencies. Imagine a few are doing the same.

Reastie · 22/04/2020 20:44

Funnily enough dh commented today a lot more cars out on the road than he’s seen throughout lockdown

EwwSprouts · 22/04/2020 20:47

Lots of people still taking exercise midday round here so assume not heading back to work yet.

The80sweregreat · 22/04/2020 20:50

Just saw on twitter (sky news feed) that the 1922 committee are concerned about the economy. Big meeting held today.
Hmm ..

RabidChinchilla · 22/04/2020 20:55

Yup, B&Q is reopening. Selected McDonalds/KFC too. I was able to collect my contact lenses the other day.

If the NHS are now coping then I don’t see the issue with slowly reopening things - each passing day where the gov pays everybody’s wages is likely setting us back weeks economically. Lockdown was never to protect us, it was to stop the NHS from being overwhelmed.

Babyroobs · 22/04/2020 21:00

My work colleague announced today on work group chat that seeing as she is having to turn her spare room into a home office, her good friends are coming round to help with the plastering and decorating so yes maybe lock down has ended.

yerawizadari · 22/04/2020 21:02

Actually today has been the quietest day I've noticed on the roads for some time. The supermarket queue was a lot smaller as well.

Maybe it's just where you live.

Tell you what though, the council is cracking on with filling in potholes and resurfacing loads of roads. Must make it so much easier for them with so little traffic about.

gluteustothemaximus · 22/04/2020 21:14

I don't know what's going on. We've been indoors since 23rd March (and were practicing social distancing way before this).

Our entire street though, seem to be out and about as normal with very little change. Over the road though, definitely a COVID case, and a few doors down as well. (yes I was curtain twitching and listening in to convo outside house).

People visit each other, talk to each other outside front door, having BBQ's, the traffic on the main road is as busy as it normally is. DH went out once to go to Iceland as ran out of food (that's the closest place to us) and there was no social distancing whatsoever, no one paying attention, he came straight back out again (no food anyway).

It's not a proper lockdown anyway, so maybe it just looks worse to those of use who are choosing to stay indoors 24/7?

CathyorClaire · 22/04/2020 21:14

Roads were barking round here today. Like Mad Max.

Saw one fuckwit racing side by side with the one in front Hmm

MigginsMs · 22/04/2020 21:21

better start breaking some rules ASAP then!

Ha, I might as well!

Tootletum · 22/04/2020 21:24

So what?

deydododatdodontdeydo · 22/04/2020 21:30

DH had to go to work in central Leeds today and he said it was a ghost town. While there were cars on the road, and a few people about, he said it was like 5am on a Sunday.
Certainly not "more people out than ever".

Alsohuman · 22/04/2020 21:33

It’s very quiet here. Proper social distancing, light traffic. It’s become the new normal.

Davespecifico · 22/04/2020 21:40

I don’t know how it is outside, but I don’t plan to put myself at risk so I and my family will continue i the same routine until we have to be back in school and workplaces.

Lovemusic33 · 22/04/2020 21:41

Roads here seem to be getting busier, I think a lot of businesses are adapting so they can keep running whilst maintaining social distancing, cafes and pubs are offering take away and delivery services, people that can work alone and outside are doing so. Several businesses are reopening here with social distancing in place, some shops and building suppliers are offering a click and collect service.

midsomermurderess · 22/04/2020 21:59

I've noticed more traffic this week where I live. Still quiet, but more cars. I don't know why.

backtonormalname · 22/04/2020 22:00

more people driving in London but as you are told not to go on public transport unless you are an essential worker and people have realised that parking restrictions have been lifted in many places it's not suprising more cars are on the road. My friends working in London hospitals say that many Covid admissions are still coming in. People getting lulled into a false sense of security by the lowering curve that is shown on the news briefings. Meanwhile out of London did not surge in the same way because the lockdown got to them early enough and was pretty well respected at first, if it is true that lots more people are starting to go out in less affected areas, we will have to see if that raises the curve again. Hope very much that it won't...

mrsBtheparker · 22/04/2020 22:12

My window cleaner called to say they'd be round tomorrow, observing the distances etc., some businesses have continued to operate, it all depends on the nature of the work I suppose.

Alsohuman · 22/04/2020 22:21

Ours was here last week.

Inkpaperstars · 22/04/2020 22:26

I haven't noticed any easing of lockdown compliance here (London), if anything it's been getting quieter. That said not sure my impressions count for much since they are only what I happen to see or hear in my immediate surroundings.

Inkpaperstars · 22/04/2020 22:27

Also just spoke to DM in different part of country, she says it is spookily deserted and quiet.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 22/04/2020 22:31

It's not like that here. Thank goodness we seem to live in a place where people don't consider death tolls of over 17,000 and potentially 40% higher to be cause to ignore lockdown .
If what posters are saying is true then it may be time to push ahead with the break-up of the UK because this reckless approach to public health definitely isn't evident in all the countries of the UK.
