Surely it’s just being trialled on people who have CV and agree to it

I've got a screening appointment later this week to be considered in a trial. I will need to discuss potential side effects carefully as I've had minor vaccine reactions in the past - it may turn out that I'm considered more suitable for a later stage of the trials process.

True - a vaccine isn’t a cure is it now I think about it

I don't think I would unless it was trial the vaccine or death, but I really admire those brave enough to volunteer. And I'm very grateful obviously.

Reading these comments I do wonder if people know what a vaccine is, as it appears a lot don't.

I probably couldn't as I had a blood transfusion in 2000. This prevents me donating blood or plasma.

I might. I’d need to know more about what stage trials it was and what was the procedure. It’s most likely that these trials will be people who have a vaccine to check for side effects rather than to check efficacy, because with the country in lockdown they’re unlikely to be naturally exposed to the virus. So the risks aren’t that great.

It doesn't sound like these trials are 'challenge' trials though, where they deliberately infect anyone with the virus. They just seem to be starting off checking whether an immune response occurs from the vaccine. It will be harder to tell if it prevents Covid-19 because under lockdown, fewer people are exposed to it, but I think deliberately infecting people is still seen as too dangerous.

I wonder what is happening with the vaccine being trialled in Seattle? They were giving it to human volunteers in mid-March, again for the purposes of seeing if an immune response was raised to it, rather than to see if it prevented infection.

And at some point, there will have to be comparisons made between different vaccines, if there are several that seem to do something, and i hope it's the scientists and not the politicians or economists that debate that and make recommendations.

The oxford ones are giving it to people and seeing if they catch covid, compared to a control group. So measuring over time. They have to measure in 18-50 year olds first . If it works in them they see if it works in older population as vaccines are not always as effective in older population. Scientist explained it on Marr at weekend, I just watched it again.

She also said there might be several different vaccines , biggest issue likely to be scale of production so different vaccines that use different methods is a helpful route

I would if not a lone parent and cancer survivor - sadly I have baggage that would probably rule me out anyway !

They’re testing if it works I think. If worried about safety it wouldn’t be going into people, very unlikely any risks
